Carafes like antlers

July 12, 2008 8:50pm

Art glass, now this is something I understand.

Drioli and Luxardo had been doing similar things fin the 50's and 60's, working with the artisans of Murano to create wine carafes in weird and wonderful shapes.

http://www.drioli.com/

for an example of an Egypitan Head Luxardo Carafe:

Luxardo is still around:

and a Drioli Swan decanter from the 60's

I wish companies were still doing this type of stuff.

That Violet Blue thing

July 2, 2008 8:17pm

As far as ideas needed to move forward from this imbroglio, consider it for simplicity sake a printed newspaper, rather than a blog. Once its posted, warts and all, it stays for posterity. Identify and annotate edits and corrections for transparency. Basically follow the best practices in online reporting, and follow them.

Having control over both the content and the CMS gives you a significant amount of control, and temptation. Maybe once an item is published, only another BBer can make edits, so there is at least one other hand in the pie?

Good luck, Im sure you will figure this out. Giddy up!

Another victim of the Streisand Effect.

For a blog that prides itself on fighting censorship and championing internet freedoms, you could have done a heck of a lot better, especially the clandestine "editing".

I respect your right to manage your "hosting" any way you see fit, but you should have been more upfront about it, from the beginning.

Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo

June 20, 2008 1:21pm

been there. Incredibly creepy, especially the infants. Apparently all the corpses were treated with arsenic as a preservative, which is why they are in relatively good condition. The Caputin monks also have a site in Rome chock full of bones, no corpses.

Warren Buffet makes $1 million Long Bet

June 9, 2008 11:31am

Very interesting!

Nothing against the site, but Buffett is going to win this by a country mile, unless costs are minimal. The markets are pretty efficient, and its dang hard to beat year in and year out.

I RTFA, but couldn't find mention about the fees and costs associated with Protege. What are they estimated at as a percentage?

I will be looking forward to updates! Good Luck!

The whole slew of incestuous electronics retailers out of Brooklyn (cameta, abes of Maine, Wall St photo)leave a lot to be desired. They sell the electronics at a great price, but require you to call in to "verify" the purchase, and they try to upsell you. If you resist the product is suddenly "out of stock" and your order is cancelled.

Caveat empor!

Heres pics of their storefronts.

Sidewalk Psychiatry graffiti

April 1, 2008 2:32pm

#13, What would your opinion be of this "art" if it was all over you house or apartment building? I'm sure it would change rapidly.

It's vandalism when it is on another's property, regardless of artistic intentions.

Chalk is a great idea.

Sidewalk Psychiatry graffiti

having lived in NYC when it was infested with graffiti, Candy better not put his/her "art" in front of my place.

#2, do you think the PD would agree when caught in flagrante delicio? I don't.

Man creates vigilante robot to battle drug dealers

A flamethrower for the drug dealers.

Project Chanology continues.

This should get interesting with the Church of $cientology does like people who question their authority or ideas.

Google "Operation Snow White"

This is the way they roll.

Typical cult bunk.

Anonymous vs. Scientology protest in LA today

February 11, 2008 7:10am

---Sunlight is the best disinfectant----

Scientology's practices have not undergone enough scrutiny by the Government. Scientologys strong arm tactics try to bow all who honestly question their motivation$.

If even half of the information on www.xenu.net about this cult is true, these protests are too good for them.

Would like to see peer review as well, It looks like it was a small group, but hope against hope!

@#1-- Alzhimers is thought to be caused by the bodys inability to clear "junk" proteins that accumulate in the brain. If your don't have alzheimers, I dont think it would do much, and the whole spinal cord injections thing would really suck.

Crank Brothers Multi-19 Bike Tool

December 17, 2007 8:30am

I bought it about 2 months ago. Works great, very sturdy. Typical crankbros. The top of the "flask" pops off frequently tho.

Madiba Adventure Truck

December 14, 2007 12:06pm

I spend 10 weeks crossing africa with a group on one of these trucks. True workhorses. The driver rebuilt the rear diff in the field. The one I was in had bench seating along the sides in the back, which opened for storage. No toilet, no winches, just sandmats and shovels for the mud.

There were a few companies that used them for transportation, Guerba and Overland if I remember correctly. Since cross aftica travel has gotten more dangerous, I guess they dont have a need for them anymore. A shame.

Russian fighter jet can stop in mid-flight

December 5, 2007 2:17pm

The world doesn't need another pretty flyboy plane, the US should reallocate the $$ to a close air support plan, so it can properly support the groundpounders. The A-10 is long in the tooth.
