I completely agree. I was really waiting for more nonsense answers that were lengthy, not just a sample.
Reminded me of a drawn out Max Headroom with the repeats.

Funny tech support transcripts
March 6, 2008 4:55pm
I don't wish to be the "I work in IT so I'm getting a kick out of these comments" guy, but...
Point The First - I've found more often then not I get phone calls where people try and try and try to explain their problem and I just can't understand what they're trying to accomplish. I end up walking over to their desk and as soon as I get there, my mere presence has fixed whatever issue they were having. They don't pay me any more for this skill, but I use my free time to read Boing Boing.
Point The Second - I worked help desk for a day trading firm and I was actually told by my boss that if the customers (who were technically staff from offices we owned) started yelling and swearing, I could hang up on them. I never did before, I usually sat there and took it. As soon as he said that, I started doing it. Guess what pisses off customers more than the computers?
Carry on.

Objects are simultaneously as tiny as a grain of salt and as large as a planet and also simultaneously within arm's reach and miles away.
YES!! I'm so glad you people are here. I've tried to explain this and people just look at me like I rode in on a load of pumpkins. Oh this makes me happy.
I get the reduced size thing usually if I'm really concentrating on someone during a conversation. Happened a lot as a kid when I'd listen to my parents talk during dinner.
Ugh, I feel vindicated somehow.
Steven Brust's unauthorized Firefly fanfic novel
February 18, 2008 10:08am
Fan fic. Why not just pitch it to Whedon and canonize the thing? It's not like the property is being heavily serialized at this point, much to my chagrin. Sort of ruins the curve for all the obscure non/authors.
Early 20th century charts of biblical teachings

I'm a big fan of the maps in front of fantasy novels. I quite enjoyed looking at these.

Blind man's hallucinations
February 4, 2008 12:02pm
I heard this driving home last week. It was a wonderful story even if I'm not a fan of how Robert Krulwich puts his stories together. It could have been a rich story and was instead edited to resemble a commercial. Slow down Robert.
That said, I immediately thought of a SF story that could be told where the person's brain is so in tune with the other senses they it's able to "hallucinate" the world around them, effectively making them alternately sighted.
Update to the The New Yorker's Eustace Tilley contest
January 29, 2008 9:26pm
As a contest participant I was happy for two reasons.
1) It was an art contest on hosted through Flickr. Two years ago we were struggling to emerge from the NIPSA cloud. I think it's come a long way in accepting artists into the fold. With Deviant Art being really the only comparable alternative (and a clunky, niche one at that) I think this contest was a big step.
2) It really brought a lot of people together. I've seen quite a few artists whose work I'll continue to enjoy as long as they post. Whoever wins or doesn't, there was a lot of talented people I'd have never known about if not for this. That makes me happy.
MythBusters tackles "plane on a conveyor belt problem"

"So you think we could make a lead zeppelin?
Jamie FTW.
My 6 and 3 year old watch this with me, it's one of their favorite shows. I'm actually a little concerned why Smash Lab is on. It's like the execs said, "Well, we like Mythbusters, but they don't always blow stuff up. Can we just make a show where they always blow something up?"

Bright lights cause big sneezes
January 16, 2008 1:33pm
@K0AN
I'm the same way. Which is only a problem at night when the brightest light I may have is only 60w. So I wonder around with my eyes rolled back and watering, my head craned back and my mouth agape trying to find a better light source.
I've also noticed babies sneeze at sunlight more often than adults.
LL-142: Classic LEGO Space Tribute Ship by Peter Reid
January 4, 2008 7:24am
I couldn't agree with #2 more. I stopped at Star Wars II (and since I'm a completist I need to get the rest of them.) But I still have my Classic Space monorail along with about 95 other sets and honestly the earlier space sets were better designed.
I'd buy nothing but sets like this if they were offered.

I'm with Nicky K, I think there were a few private dicks interrupted by a public one. Otherwise this whole situation a) doesn't make sense b) violates some kind of entrapment law.

Agree with Lone, it's almost to the point where they just don't make sense. Especially that "TIE Fighter," I don't even have a suitable frame of reference for it. It's so big and so stark and abandoned - you can just hear the wind whistling by.
Kinda creepy, but I can't stop looking at it.

Best Buy won't refund "hard drive" that turned out to be a box of bathroom tiles
October 29, 2007 12:01pm
Here's the deal with "taking it up with the manufacturer."
http://lifeinaustin.blogspot.com/2007/05/problems-with-sony.html
Long and short of it, I had a defective DVD that I could have easily taken back to Borders. I had a receipt, it was a gift, no-brainer. However, just to see if it was possible, I did try to take it up with Sony and got absolutely
frickin
nowhere.
The best input I got was actually from Best Buy who said part of a retailers entire reason for existence is to deal with the manufacturer. The makers of products don't like dealing with customers and generally try not to.
To me, Best Buy really failed here. Pulling a fast one or not, the next time I want something, I'll go to the manufacturer to buy it, service it, refund it, etc, putting Best Buy in a bad position as they've lost the only thing they do, service. You can't take this road as a service oriented middle-man and expect to gain customer loyalty.
So, not knocking the company, but perhaps just this manager.

Giraffe-fight! video
September 27, 2007 6:53am
I have never seen anything like that. That was startling.
The sounds, the positioning. I've always wondered why giraffe's have horns. It's like they've turned their heads into a sock full of nickels.
I want to watch it again, but I don't think I can. Big things fighting makes me queasy.

MIT student arrested for entering Boston airport with "fake bomb"
September 21, 2007 8:24am
I think what we're all missing is an MIT Computer Science student is probably not into making a lot of "art." I know, board/chip design can take some creativity, but I don't see this as guerrilla performance art or even an attempt to poke holes in the TSA web.
I think she's a bit unhinged.
The View's flat earther blames "senior poopy moment"
September 19, 2007 8:32pm
This is complete BS. Your brain shouldn't have to think about whether the Earth is flat or not, it should just be there. I'm a parent of two without a nice TV job and you can bet I'd know the answer to that question without gumming up the "what's for dinner" train of thought.
We need to stop celebrating these idiots by giving them spots on TV shows.
Finally, if you have to rack your brain for the shape of your planet, maybe raising a child isn't such a good idea.
Dumbass.

Problem is, it got my gmail list that has a group for an artists project and THAT just looks unprofessional.

LEGO Exo-Force Aero Booster
August 29, 2007 10:08am
Since the days of Robotech and Centurions (anyone remember that one) I've been building mechs or modular fighting vehicles and suits. Lego's attention to detail really waned with its Star Wars line and it put me off buying more sets. There were so many models with under-modeled undersides that I didn't want to spend more on that. But I'm a completist so I have to finish out the set...
...and find all those Blacktron sets on eBay.

When I was setting up my charity project, this was one of the biggest concerns. Since most of the original people signing up were aspiring or pro comic artists, they thought not being able to do a copyrighted property might limit the project. No one would buy original art if it wasn't Spiderman or Batman. I had to hold firm on that and I'm glad I did, considering.
