Color management tweak in Firefox 3

June 21, 2008 9:35pm

I picked it up from Lifehacker, and I see a major difference. Surprisingly most of the differences I see are not in color photos, but in graphic details like page layouts, background colors, web 'chrome'. Even the Facebook blue seems more saturated, a little deeper.

I also noticed a slight performance slow-down as well but I can live with it.

Very lovely, very nice. Thank you for improving the quality of my day. Can't ask for much more than that.

Debunking the climate-change denialists' talking-points

June 18, 2008 3:38am

Now if someone on the other side of the debate would put together something like this for comparison, that would be useful.

The author loses me on the consensus vs. proof issue. I just don't believe it. Yes, there can be proof of things in science and it's silly to suggest otherwise. I do not accept consensus arguments. I think to put that forward as the backbone of your case is disingenuous.

They have been wrong many times before, even about environmental and climate issues.

Subterranean Japanese bike-parking robot

April 24, 2008 7:16am

That's really fascinating. I'm intrigued by this sort of machine-space that the system uses for storage.

I wonder though, if the storage/retrieval contraption part of it were to break down, is there any way to get the bikes out?

NYPD cop: videoing me breaking the law is a terrorist act

April 23, 2008 11:54am

Hm. What's scaring me a bit here, reading through the comments, are the folks who are saying that the police don't have to follow the law like other people do.

That's a bit frightening to think that people believe that is true.

Of course, now they have to decide which twin bed to have sex in this year.

Water filled plastic bags on trees scare bugs away?

April 15, 2008 4:47pm

This is awesome. How does shit like this get started? There's even folks in here claiming it works. So brilliant.

I want to start one of these, something so outrageous and stupid yet with just enough of a dog-head tilt to it to make it work for the gullible and go viral.

There's a lot of "I heard it from so-and-so" in this thread, so that's definitely something that has to factor in.

Ted Talks: Johnny Lee's Wii remote hacks

Ya know, I love TED videos, but man, do I HATE that crescendo intro music. Hate it with a passion.

TSA endangers child's life by contaminating his feeding tube despite pleas

March 6, 2008 12:02pm

@ 37 DVDMON, completely agree, this 'endangers child's life' title is way off the mark. I agree that TSA policy is fucked-up, and many here have already made that point.

TSA wasn't forcing the kid to get on the plane.

"unusual to whom?"

Is there someone to whom a bowling wild boar model kit is not unusual?

Phone company recordings archive

December 15, 2007 12:54pm

Fantastic. Some of these would be excellent ringtones.

I'm trying to place the accent on that voice, it sounds like there's a slight Southern aspect to it, perhaps the speaker is trying to disguise it. I notice it most in words like "help" and "again".

BBC's snappy answers to climate-change denial

November 12, 2007 9:29pm

Some of the information in the counter column is plainly inaccurate. #7 in particular is outright incorrect. Several of the purported skeptical views are silly too (#8 and 9 in particular).

Climate change has not been shown to be actually occurring. There's nothing new here to convince me. I've yet to see any good response to Christopher Monckton's pieces in the Telegraph:

Balloon organ

November 8, 2007 6:45am

That is completely awesome. I love when he gets playing with the canter version of it, he plays just a couple of seconds of amazing Indian style bagpipe stuff. I'd love to hear compositions for the thing.

Boing Boing's new community features!

November 6, 2007 12:00am

Awesome. Love the changes. I trust y'all won't be evil with the 'favorite this' function. I see potential there if it is misused. I'm good with displaying the number of times an article has been 'favorited' but gosh, I hope you never start sorting articles based on that information.

Love what you've done with the place!!

Excellent liquor store name of the day

October 19, 2007 8:56am

I love Salem, and this is the time of year to go.
The Salem Bunghole shop is just down the street from Salem Beer Works. If you ever stop in, I recommend the Blueberry beer. Very tasty, and the blueberries they toss in the beer rise and sink repeatedly.

Butt-biting Bug / Vaginads

October 5, 2007 9:23am

These are extremely well produced segments, hats off to your production team. I absolutely love the Jackhammer Jill animation - perfectly created, and the quick edit to and from sets it off nicely.

My concern - are you going to continue to use material that has already been featured on the website? It would be nice to see some new stuff featured here, rather than just a multimedia rehash of previous static blog data.

And where are the other doodz? No offense, Xeni, always nice to see you of course, but what happened to Mark? And Pesco... I wanna see Cory's facial expressions as he rips the RIAA a new one verbally.

Matchbox car catalog from 1969

October 4, 2007 8:33pm

Matchbox is not slotcars- these are diecast metal cars. Dunno why they are portraying it as a slotcar set in the illustration.

I had almost all of these. I remember especially the pieces that got lost - the pipes for the pipe truck, the cows for the cattle carrier. The stake truck had removable stake sections for the walls and I lost those too. Had the bus, the pickup, the crane, the motorbike trailer (never lost the motorcycle - it attached to the trailer very securely). And I begged for many of the large scale pieces and always got turned down, they were way too expensive back then.

Laugh Out Loud Cats meet tasered Florida student

September 20, 2007 5:10am

Agree with the last two posts. The dude was being a deliberate ass, but this in no way excuses the behavior of the security staff. People really need to think about this and keep in mind what really went down here.

And hats off to Ape Lad for leaping on a fast moving meme and getting it exacty right.

Metaplace: open DIY virtual worlds for everyone

September 19, 2007 5:29am

Cory, you may want to advise them to get more bandwidth. And oddly, I keep misreading their URL as 'meatplace.com".

Seriously, this sounds very interesting and I wish I could check it out. Slow...

Smorgasbord of short links

September 17, 2007 12:25pm

@anonymous (comment #2) - there is another video at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3fIIwBTMKo ... which appears to be shot at the same gathering. Doesn't clear up anything.

There's a third video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcwMlxFcXgU ... which is titled "Miracle at Sayyida Zainab Shrine" but is kind of an edit of different events. The minarets at the beginning, and again at the end, appear to be the same night-lit ones as in the original video.

Smorgasbord of short links

September 17, 2007 3:18am

Does anyone know details about what happened at the Zainab mosque? There's virtually nothing online except this and one other, equally as enigmatic video.

Pluto flips out at Disneyland (video)

September 14, 2007 4:21pm

Seems evil to me. You can hear the kid screaming, and after Pluto falls down, you can hear someone (maybe Pluto?) yell, "what the fuck you doin'?" or, "what're you fucking doin'?"

That's the problem with those places. Goddamn kids everywhere.

Ice-free arctic in 23 years, and polar bear extinction?

September 8, 2007 1:55pm

Nick, as someone who firmly believes that global warming is a natural climactic cycle and not a human caused event, I agree with you that the lifestyle changes we as humans should make are worthwhile to do, regardless of their supposed impact on global warming. I can certainly see the benefits of reduced air pollution and cleaner fuel alternatives, less reliance on foreign energy interests, etc. We should be doing those things anyway.

Video compilation of television logo signoffs

Ah, I should have known they'd sneak a Screen Gems 'S from Hell' in there. I am still terrified of that thing.

Welcome to the new Boing Boing!

Glad to see comments back, but I wonder if you'd be better off to disable anonymous comments.
