Microwave-toaster combo shows cellphones a thing or two about convergence
April 24, 2008 9:25am
We had one of these in the office I used to work at. The funny thing was that the toaster did not have the familiar red hot coils. Instead, it blasted your bread/bagel with blow-dryer hot air. It still toasted, I guess, but it really dried out whatever you were toasting.

"So anyone else think 'Moonlight' sounds like a retread of 'Forever Knight,' among all its other clones?"
My thoughts exactly. If we could only bring back that slice of Canadian goodness instead of rehashing it in terrible Hollywood style. At least Nick Knight wasn't searching for his true love.
Harvard bookstore: Our prices are "property"
September 19, 2007 8:47am
I used to work for a college bookstore and we freely gave out ISBNs. The students are going to get their hands on them anyway, and if it helped generate even the merest goodwill we were happy to have it - people were going to hate us enough when buyback came around at the end of the semester.
And as far as getting older, cheaper editions, I say go for it. The publishers actually strike deals with professors, encouraging the professors to always use the newest edition in order to garner better profit. It's a great game of You Scratch My Back that even made bookstore employees upset. The bookstores actually make a better profit off of used books, so even they would prefer to keep one edition over several semesters.

Hey boingers, you already posted this back on August 15th. It doesn't even seem like they're new photos from Klimas. It is, in fact, the exact same link. Morning brain fart?
Many scientists unhappy about Lucy tour
September 11, 2007 9:59am
I agree that a copy is all that is necessary for this tour. We all grew up admiring the copies of dinosaur fossils, so I don't understand why the originality of the fossil is such a big marketing gimmick. Personally, I think there should be multiple copies made. Then anyone in any city could learn from Lucy and others like her. As it is, I now have to check the tour schedule to see if it's coming to Phoenix. What is this? A Van Halen reunion tour? Geez.

You will have so much fun! I went for a week two years ago and had no trouble finding internet cafes, even in small towns. Be sure to hit the hot springs at Arenal. You can drink a beer while watching magma flow down the mountain. Sweet.
