New book about Wacky Packages
May 27, 2008 6:48pm
I saw author Michael Chabon speak last month and talked a long while about Whacky Packages...it's funny to see a coffee table book about them now.

Is it wrong of me to think that the main loan huckster guy they interviewed got what he deserved now that he can't pay his own bills?

Nice! My wife is a grad student there (Library Sciences FTW!) so we'll have to check it out.

Jordan Crane's amazing cover for Michael Chabon's Maps and Legends
April 12, 2008 10:32am
I just finished this book yesterday. It was very good - his examination of Cormac McCarthy's THE ROAD and Howard Chaykin's AMERICAN FLAGG! were the highlights, in my opinion.

50 Years of LEGO: Nine Sets I Have Known and Loved
January 28, 2008 3:50pm
I had the Black Monarch's Castle (so awesome!) and I begged my mom for the monorail, but never got it. Now, I'm begging my wife to let me buy some of the Indiana Jones stuff. They would be the first Lego sets I've bought in at least a decade.
Gonzo: the Life of Hunter S. Thompson
January 14, 2008 6:51pm
I spent an hour on the phone the other night talking to a friend about this very book and HST in general (he's read it, I haven't). I guess I have to pick it up now that it's got Boing Boing's approval as well. Doubly good.
But seriously, everyday I wish HST was alive just to cover the campaign. I don't think there will ever be another person that can dissect a candidate like Thompson could.
Steampunk Justice League of America modded action figures
January 10, 2008 6:27am
I love that Aquaman. If DC published an Aquaman book with that look, I would definitely pick it up.

Teens throw bottles at cops for thrill of chase
November 24, 2007 2:36pm
Seriously, people, we have to stop with the "does this really belong on Boing Boing?" crap. Just stop it. The great thing about Boing Boing is that you can read the serious stuff and you can read the off-the-wall crap, or you can just ignore everything. If you want control over the postings go to Digg or create your own damn blog.
Jack of Fables: Jack of Hearts - comic adventures of the legendary Jack continue
November 15, 2007 7:31am
I like Jack of Fables, but I personally feel that a "Tales of"-style book would have been better suited for the Fables universe. Instead of only focusing on Jack, we could have more stories with the Farm animals, or those Fables that are out spying in the world. But I'll take what I can get when it comes to Fables.
Binibottle: Teen Invents Easy-Fill Water Bottle
October 12, 2007 6:29am
Oh man, what a great idea. I hate trying to fill large bottles in the sink because half the water stream goes down the drain. To me, this thing is a "duh" moment. Why hadn't somebody thought of this before?
Boing Boing tv: Ask "Simpsons" director David Silverman
October 11, 2007 7:36am
I've always heard that if a Simpson's movie was made it would signal the end of the show. Is that still true? Can fans expect a second movie?
Visions of the Future/Listography
October 2, 2007 7:18pm
Boing Boing TV? Oh, this is hot. People look at me funny when I say I don't have cable. Stuff like Boing Boing TV is ten times better than the crap that's on $60/month cable.
Teacher resigns after giving 13-yr-old student copy of Eightball
September 24, 2007 12:44pm
While I would not recommend this book to any of my younger students, it's definitely not any worse than the crap kids see on prime time TV. BTW, this is one of the best issues of Eightball, in my opinion.

I've never heard of this...pretty cool though, especially considering I went to a booksale at a local library today (and found a copy of VENUS ON A HALF SHELL by Kilgour Trout!)
