Bush fundraiser linked to crashed drug plane

October 29, 2007 3:49pm

Am I missing something here?

Believe me, i'd love nothing more than concrete evidence that Bush was backed by drug money, but this is nothing. This has nothing to do with Bush or Adams.

If I sold two computers and then years later someone was busted using them for some crime, would that mean that anyone I had supported for election was now tied to that crime?

C'mon folks. The administration does enough genuinely illegal and unethical things that we don't need to waste our time on this kind of a stretch.

Japanese women could be "safer" at night by wearing vending-machine disguises

October 20, 2007 3:20pm

It's interesting that the article talks abut the cultural differences of how the Japanese and westerners view self-defense (which I'm fairly sure is BS), when I see one very striking similarity: They both have a market that creates anxiety about nonexistent problems then capitalizes on that anxiety to sell things that would do no good in that situation for which they are prescribed.

Remember when duct tape was practically selling out at hardware stores?

Galacticast: Sean Bonner is Wil Wheaton is Wesley Crusher

Wow... that's a really long (and poorly acted) way around to calling someone a motherfucker...

@22 Hartman's Law of Prescriptivist Retaliation (Jed Hartman, April 1998): "Any article or statement about correct grammar, punctuation, or spelling is bound to contain at least one eror."

Try this:

Maybe some other dude stole it for you; but your grammar, syntax, and spelling closely match the embarrassment to English which is your plagiarized bio.

At any rate...

From my understanding, Craig has sent Xeni and Sarah the actual Word documents as well as a PDF of one of "Tim's" articles. At this point, it's pretty much been proven that he's telling the truth.

Craig has a lot of issues and has been an ass in the past, but I think Boing Boing owes him an apology and a full retraction with regards to this article. Two wrongs don't make a right (even on the internet).

So... out of curiosity, did Xeni even contact Craig before posting this, or did she just assume that there was no way a friend of hers could ever be wrong about something?

Supreme Court denies Alabama women mechanically induced orgasms

October 1, 2007 6:05pm

This is the same state that only started allowing inter-racial marriages in 2000.

They still think George Wallace was a hero.

They have a gay marriage ban.

They have "anti-sodomy" laws.

These are not the most forward looking people.

Woman dies in security custody at airport

I'm definitely going to follow this story.

I honestly can not figure out how it is physically possible to do what the police are saying she did.

I think the family should have an independent ME look in to this.

It's weird hearing the word "legendary" applied to a business that is mere yards from my apartment.

Uzbek billionaire Usmanov censors critic and many UK MPs' blogs

September 22, 2007 9:04am

I don't understand how Murray's host can legally do this. Is there something like the DMCA in the UK that allows for potentially libelous content to be edited or censored?

He says that he's sympathetic to his hots *having* to change his posts. Why do they *have* to?

That's some scary shit, when someone with enough money or clout can silence their critics so easily.

Magtable Coffee Table by Satina Turner

September 18, 2007 11:46am

I actually really love the concept and design. No... It's not "user friendly," but I'm fine by that. It encourages exploration (for guests; I'll know which magazine is which, anyway).

My problem with it is that... well... I have hyper kids and a sometimes clumsy girlfriend. Drinks would be sure to spill. On a standard coffee table, I can grab my magazines and books really quick and wipe them off. With this thing, I don't know if it would effect the magazines more, but the liquid would surely drip through the slats to the floor (which is carpeted).

Witchcraft practitioner wins Mega Millions lottery

September 3, 2007 9:43am

"If it wasn't for this place I wouldn't have won the lottery," Bartlett said Sunday at Mystickal Voyage, the New Age shop.

I love the way religious people draw correlations between completely unrelated things.

No... If you hadn't stopped and purchased two tickets, you would have never won. The fact that you won is shear random chance.

He was "teaching" before he won. Why would his gods cause him to win if he was already doing it? Why would they allow other people who had never even heard of them win for all these years? Why would they make someone who's only going to teach win, when they could do better by giving the win to people who live in pain and suffering around the world?

Here's my little prayer to win...

Dear, dear Flying Spaghetti Monster, hallowed be thy noodles. If you let me win the lotto, I promise I'll continue to take care of my special needs daughter. I mean... I'll do it anyway, but you know... I figured that since you're an all powerful entity that can alter reality on request when I bargain with you, you'd like a little extra incentive.
