I must post this link to a pertinent wondermark strip. Wondermark is an illustrated jocularity by David Malki:
Writer who photographed HP Lovecraft's headstone ordered to delete her photo, heaped with abuse

Okay, my anecdote has nothing to do with this story, but seeing all these tales of harassment for photography just made me think of it and I'd like to share:
A few years ago I visited Westminster Abbey in London, though I had shown up too late in the day to be part of a guided tour. That would have been nice, and I would have gladly paid for it but no biggie. One of the wings has an amazing geometric ceiling, and being the nerd that I am, I spent of great deal of time with my eyes pointed straight up absorbing the awe and studying its intricacies.
While I'm doing this, the tour group I couldn't join comes along, and the guide (a "holy" person of sorts, I don't know exactly what) proceeds to speak to his group about whatever. I'm still looking up, and he stops talking to announce rather loudly something to the effect of "people nearby who have not paid for the tour should be considerate to those who have, and not take a free listen", which seemed to be directed at me.
I just ignored him and continued admiring the ceiling. They also had a non-photo policy, but I snapped a few shots of Sir Newton's tomb anyway.

Wow that's pretty neat, you can tell it's the same scammer because of the consistently poor spelling and progression of repeating clues.

Thanks for the comment Xeni! I feel so special to have a reply from you because I appreciate you being out in the world to experience the things I'd love to see up close but don't always get the chance to go see.
The rapid production wasn't so much the safety issue as was the design and limitation of steel alloys of the time. They weren't cutting corners, rather displaying awesome efficiency with genuine communal motivation toward the war effort. I certainly wasn't there, but I know a crazy amount of ww2 history for my age.
@#10 dbarak - I know a good bit about kaiser permanente and its origins, and even commuted by bike past their center in portland multiple times daily for a good few years. I'm sure that a lot of their problems are tied into the national healthcare mess, but they are awful! I brought my roomate in once because I thought he was dying, and they were all "card please", and I'm all like, "is he going to die if I spend an extra 15 minutes taking him to the VA?" at which point they became even less helpful. Also not long ago they blew a huge amount of money on a failed IT system that was practically worthless upon "completion". That, and they sent phony bills to another friend who successfully disputed them, making me wonder how many people pay their faulty bills just to make the problem go away.
@flyingssquid - My style is postpunk-punk.
Stealing things according to the "If value, then right" theory

Okay, so the corollary is that everyone is financially liable for every depreciation in value. Every fart in an elevator, every mistake the city has made that cost honest citizens their time, every person who has failed to use their turn signal which has resulted in unsmooth traffic...
YOU ALL OWE PAY UP!!

Fun fact: the liberty ships were nicknamed "Kaiser Coffins" because they'd have a nasty issue where the whole boat would crack in half when the brittle steel was exposed to the cold waters, and the ships would sink VERY fast. Pretty quickly, they had a fix where they'd put a big plate of steel along each side of the boat to prevent this.
And yes, it was truly amazing how quickly these boats were being made once the builders had gotten a little experience with the first ones. Hitler's boats were impressive, but couldn't stand up to the Zerg rush of the liberty ships.

@#8 jed alexander:
as an 80's kid, I think the movies (and music) of that time were something pretty unique. Seeing them from an adult eye now, they are pretty cheesy and such. But I can really remember walking out of the theater feeling really good and inspired, perhaps because they made it look like accomplishing things was really easy (all you need is a montage!).
Just to name a few off the top of my head: indiana jones, the neverending story, the princess bride, breakin 2: electric bugaloo, the goonies, uhf, spies like us, caddyshack, the karate kid...
I think the past 10 years have been pretty crappy for movies except for the fact that with the sheer volume quite a few have been the good exceptions.
New club drug: Preparation H?

Grammar fail!
Some macho dudes at NYC clubs rub allegedly Preparation H on their torsos
The use of allegedly as an adverb is placed to describe "prep H", which is a noun. It should be placed before "rub", not after.

The article didn't list his professions, but he could have skinned it afterward for some medium leather.

I've seen this story in a couple places now, and I'm concerned that this will affect me even though I don't consider myself a "heaviest" user. I haven't really looked, but there are some specifics I'd like to know:
1. Is this combined upstream AND downstream? Does it matter if it's used during peak times?
2. What penalties would I face for exceeding the limit?
