GTA IV critic busted lying about game
May 9, 2008 12:56pm
I was violent and agressive before I found videogames. Now, instead of plunging long knives into fat people's fat necks on the way home from a stressful day at work, I go home to my nice warm console and kill Nazis with machine guns.
The world is safer because of violent games. That means you, fatty.
Kids' game adds 500-1000 words to its forbidden list every day
May 9, 2008 12:18pm
People actually have jobs censoring kids in chat rooms for kids. This never ceases to amaze me. Do they think this is good for business, or necessary to limit their liability?
Craftsman's $8600 everything toolkit
May 7, 2008 3:24pm
Compare to MAC's automotive svc set (MS500) for similar price:
http://www.mactools.com/Mac/Mac+Products/Catalog/Hand+Tools/Master+Sets/MS500#
I cant' find anything comparable from Snap-On, but it's likely that you'd be able to get about 1/4 as many tools for the same price.
Back when I was a mechanic, MAC tools was the best alternative to snap-on. With snap-on, you tend to buy tools as you need them, instead of all at one time.
We usually would have a lot of old craftsman stuff that we could modify for specific tasks. Snap-on and MAC tools are too expensive to grind into new shapes. And craftsman are usually easier to shape, since they are generally made from lower quality steel.
This set looks pretty high quality though. Seems like a lot of stuff for the price.
Ballmer "Kicks Ass" in Time 100, beats Jobs in reader poll
May 5, 2008 12:37pm
Ballmer looks like the kind of guy who would spray a 20 meter fan of blood if his throat was cut.
Ingenious jar-friendly spoons
May 2, 2008 12:53pm
Agreed: spatula.
The Spatula is flexible; it can clean any jar as easily as a dog's tongue.
The above designs would require different spoons for every size and shape jar.
Droog's Do Hit Chair, complete with sledgehammer
May 2, 2008 12:15pm
I love art and all, and I think artists should be well taken care of. This whole designer furniture thing has gotten out of hand though. Yeah, some dude with a Swedish sounding name may have doodled it up one afternoon while having his toes polished, but he sure as hell didn't sit around with a tig welder and build all those boxes.
You could actually make a pretty good chair out of a steel box if you didn't do what the idiots in the pictures are doing. You could tap out a pretty comfortable shape in stainless I believe. I would'nt pay this knob a single red cent though.
Spielberg to make live-action 3D 'Ghost in the Shell' movie
May 1, 2008 12:56pm
Aw no f**in way. In the immortal words of Tony Harrison:
"This, my friends, is an outrage!"
The time: the future
The place: New New York
The cast:
Michael Douglas (batou)
Tom Cruise (togusa)
Katherine Zeta-Jones (major kusanagi)
Saito...
Oh.. I've made a sick on me desk.
Hard drive crushers... er.... crush drives hard

I have a 200lb anvil from 1898 and a sledge hammer. The sledge hammer is also very handy for fending off RIAA zombie agents.
Boomerangs in space
May 1, 2008 12:00pm
Of course they work! Wouldn't do to well in a vacuum. I would'nt take one on a spacewalk. You know, for protection against space pirates.

RED Scarlet 3K camcorder, James Cameron on the future of digital cinema, and trying to grok all these pixels
April 15, 2008 3:13pm
So if a camera can only flip frames at 24 fps, what happens when you want to do time based effects in post? Its gonna look pretty choppy.
Time-lapse video of man trapped in an elevator for 41 hours
April 15, 2008 3:01pm
I don't care if I had to climb 90 floors up a cable, I would have got out. And I would have torn that elevator to pieces if I couldnt get out. I'd have ripped the ceiling and floors out, and if I didn't find a hatch (do elevator usually have hatches?)
I would make one. I have no fear of elevators or small spaces, I just can't imagine waiting that long for someone to notice the stuck elevator.
It's also pretty stupid to pretend you're mentally unfit to work and attempt to sue your employer for extravagant amounts. Anybody who thinks the legal system is there to help people retire early is a fool.
The OS X Error That Should Not Be
April 7, 2008 2:18pm
The worst OS X crash I've ever had was with my Macbook G4. I've had it for a few years and recently it's taken a shining to overheating. Anyway, any app thats running too hot crashes, which causes the crash reporter to run, which then crashes, and causes the crash reporter to run, which crashes, and starts up another instance of the crash reporter, which crashes, and causes.. you get the idea.
Jessica Joslin: Strange Nature art book
April 2, 2008 12:23pm
I think its natural to keep at least the skulls of dead friends rather than have them incinerated or embalmed and entombed. My folks have the ashes of all of our dogs that have died over the years. Its too bad they didn't keep the skulls or we'd have a pretty interesting collection. And you can visit with your old pals any time. Skulls need petting too.
Video: Kitty Cornershot Hides Rifle Inside Plush Cat
April 1, 2008 3:04pm
Right around 0:25 the Ex-USN Seal guy puts teh kitteh-covered barrel right in his own face. I don't care if the other dude DID just open the bolt, I'd never stick a barrel in my face or anyone else's. Whatta jackass.
Vintage Microphone Gallery

oooooh jeeezus. Ok the RCA ribbons are probably the most desirable there.
The 'Blue' mics are 'vintagesque'. Nice looking, but not vintage.

Pro golfer hits balls at hawk until he kills it, then denies he tried to kill it
March 8, 2008 2:23pm
I f-kin hate golfers. The next time someone goes on a shooting rampage here in the US, they should take out some golfers. Leave the innocent students alone, kill some friggin golfers.
Bjork pisses China off over Tibet independence

She was singing 'To bed, to bed. To bed, to bed.'
Its got nothing to do with Tibet.
Crocodile jumps at annoying man trying to pose for photo
March 5, 2008 2:47pm
HA thats great. Hey man, thats what crocs do. Sneak up on animals who get too close to the water. Like a deadly floating log of death.
Except instead of a deer drinking at the river's edge, we got this annoying Israeli backpacker here..
Silverlit V-Beat Air Drums
March 5, 2008 2:38pm
Wow thats terrible. I did vomit. Partially from the camera work, but also the music and the ripped off concept. This is so dumb, I can't say any more about it.
Does Mighty Putty Work?

Ahh damn. he was inches away from getting run over by that fully loaded tractor-trailer. Someday, an accident will silence that voice forever.
Saudis set to execute illiterate, beaten woman for "witchcraft"

You're joking, right? Does this lady have a few massive oil fields to feed our military-industrial machine for a few more years? Cause the only way the deltas are going in is if she's got a few billion barrels of sweet black shiny sand juice.

Bed looks like it was designed by Apple
February 21, 2008 12:28pm
iBed?
Don't designers know when they're biting apple? Isn't there a little bell that goes off that says 'Hey, thats not very original.'
Report: Disk encryption security defeatable through DRAM vulnerability
February 21, 2008 12:23pm
So the situation where this would be a problem is where RIAA agents kick down the door and jump through the windows simultaneously, quickly jamming a bootable disk into your computer before the DRAM's contents are gone.

Bongkun Shin's "SmartGuide" Drill Concept
February 19, 2008 11:45am
FAIL.
The design student who 'invented' this virtual product has probably never used a drill. And it looks like it was designed by Apple in California (but made in china).
If I was teaching an industrial design class, I'd fail anyone who bites an apple design.

There is one thing you can say for sure about that guitar and that is that it will not inspire you to get any better at playing it. However, if you really can't find another guitar to smash on stage at your next performance, this one might do.
Throwing away broken electronics (video)
February 12, 2008 12:12pm
Hip Hop is boring. Some of the sampleuction there is interesting, but not something i'd listen to more than once. However, there are parts of that video that I'd like to remix with some extreme heavy metal instrumentals. Specifically the parts where girls in their underwear wield sledgehammers and tubes explode. I collect skulls. I won't kill anything for a skull, but if something is already dead...
Now, the bong part, that's just stupid. But I do recall many teenage days searching far and wide for bong materials.
