Rosicrucian MENTAL POISONING ad from 1939
May 28, 2008 6:51am
"Sealed Book" eh? Must be to keep out the "other" mental poisoning.
Yes, I initially read this as metal poisoning...

HOWTO build a giant D12 to meditate in
April 22, 2008 9:45am
I would be too distracted by being able to roll around in it to meditate which is why I should just build this (http://www.boingboing.net/2006/08/04/howto-have-picnic-ge.html) instead (1d20).

Satellite to be junked because lunar flyby is patented
April 11, 2008 1:53pm
Actually, U.S. patent law is written to consider space, probably part of the moon program as well as lobbying by the aerospace industry. See U.S.C Title 35, Sec 105
None of this has any bearing on the validity of the patent, but if it is valid, than space counts. If they think that the patent is not valid, then they should weight the risk of a successful lawsuit against them v.s., the cost of not performing the maneuver.

TSA's crazy screener-testing: giving "bombs" to regular passengers to sneak onboard?!?
October 22, 2007 8:49am
This happened to me in PDX in the pre-TSA days. I was asked to put a bag on the x-ray belt. After inspecting their credentials and being informed that I did not need to recover the bag or admit ownership, I did it. After walking though, I saw the "trainers" reviewing something with the screeners on the display. I thought it was a little strange since the request to carry the bag through occurred well within sight of the X-ray machine.
However, in today's paranoia-laced security days, there is NO WAY I would participate in this. In fact, I would probably refer them to local authorities (as suggested above), just for fun, assuming I thought I wouldn't be delayed.
HOWTO make a vibrobot

Finkbuilt has a cool lower-tech version suitable for younger kids: http://www.finkbuilt.com/blog/kids-art-bot/
I used it to teach "inventing" to my Daughter's Kindergarten class. I gave them the basic idea and let them experiment with the placement of the motor, the weight etc. For example, one of the kids suspended the motor with tape inside the cup.

I am impressed with the Netflix service and would buy a Roku today, except, unlike youtube, it does not "cache" the video for you. So if you have a slow (
