Weekend Mayhem: Come Play Team Fortress 2 With Boing Boing!
May 3, 2008 7:14am
That was fun! It was especially good because it was free of people farming medic achievements (which has really sucked recently). I play medic about half the time (and soldier the other half), but I haven't been recently because there are 5-6 medics on every team standing in the spawn healing each other.
Good games everyone! I may jump on again tonight!

I may pop on later. I'm a regular on TF2. My id is =(e)=subtle_turtle (the =(e)= part is a clan tag).
Malware gets a EULA
April 29, 2008 6:34am
That's nothing. You should see the EULA my dealer made me sign last time I bought Heroin (v1.0) from him!
"In the event that Heroin becomes your drug interface of choice, the user agrees that all future "licenses" will be purchased at double the original cost directly from Big Louie Drug Tech Solutions LLP."

I don't live in LA, but if they took my taco carts away from me (I live in Denver), I would riot in the streets. They are cheaper than Taco Bell, and better than most any brick and mortar Mexican except a few. And on Saturdays I can get menudo with pigs feet.
Latte-froth printer
April 19, 2008 6:31pm
My uncle had an old blotter printer like that that he used to print CAD blueprints. It was back in the late 80's early 90's and it cost a fortune, but I loved watching the little mechanical arm squirt ink on the paper. I wonder if he still has it...
Public 'skine.art Moleskine blog
April 16, 2008 9:58am
I've always wanted to keep a cool notebook journal, but I've never been able to keep it up after a couple days (same with any blogs I've ever done).
My mom, who is an accomplished fiber artist and painter, makes the most incredible travel journals ever. They are part collage, part painting, part writing, and really evoke a sense of the place they refer too.
Man whose house was hit by five meteors believes he is targeted by aliens
April 9, 2008 8:16am
I don't know, what are the odds of one house getting hit by meteorites 5 times? The guy may have a point. The question is, what did he do to piss the aliens off?
Scary art-cameras made from human remains, HIV+ blood and tragic objects
April 8, 2008 6:32pm
80% heparin will kill most anything... It's pretty toxic stuff in concentration.
I really like the craftsmanship you have. That's some amazing work you did!
When you show the photos, will you show the camera with them? It would be an odd but interesting experiment to do one show with the camera and one where you don't mention the camera used in any way and judge people's reactions in each. I think the camera itself is such an evocative piece on it's own, and I know I would look at photos taken with it differently than ones shot on a plain film camera.
Scary art-cameras made from human remains, HIV+ blood and tragic objects
April 8, 2008 9:31am
It wouldn't be physically dangerous to use HIV+ blood, because the virus isn't exactly hardy outside the body, and in any case, the amount of anti-coagulant needed to keep the blood liquid would be toxic to just about anything.
Conceptually I can't decide how I feel about it. It's simultaneously morbid and fascinating. It certainly makes a point about the medium being part of the message...
Bad Questions to Ask a Transsexual + "Stunning": Calpernia Addams.
March 24, 2008 6:37pm
I imagine that the stupid questions would be less annoying then the constant behind your back judging that a transsexual endures, particularly those that are not "passing." I was involved in a surgery (rhinoplasty) for a young woman who was just beginning the process of transitioning, and I was amazed how unprofessional even her doctors and nurses could be. It seems like it must be a difficult road to walk, and to do it must take a phenomenal amount of strength of will!
Surgeons perform erroneous anal surgery
March 21, 2008 4:23pm
I work in an OR and if this happened in my OR HEADS WOULD ROLL. We verify the procedure so often with both the doctor and the patient before we do anything that they (the doctor and patient) get annoyed with us. However, I'm now going to start addressing the new anus issue with my patients. I may even see if I can add it to the pre-op charting. I envision a little check box that says "Patient requires new anus yes/no" and having the nurses ask about it. "So I see your having foot surgery today. Would you like a new anus with that?"
Air safety proposal: shock-bracelets controlled by flight attendants
March 20, 2008 6:44pm
That's a great idea! Where can I invest? Is the company traded on any exchanges? Or can we just create a new "terror futures" exchange and start profiting on our growing paranoia? I'll buy dirty-bomb at $35!
Why stop with airplanes? What a great motivation tool for managers at fast food companies! Or Wal-mart! And bracelets? How 1980s. I want the electrodes implanted sub-Q. If you don't have anything to hide, you shouldn't complain, right?
Oh, and #6, you can't take gel-like substances onto a plane, remember. I'll send a shock your way for stepping out of line there...
