Apple Geniuses to get even more douchey
April 29, 2008 7:41pm
Doesn't it seem that John is upset he's not an Apple Genius?
And I bet Apple Retail employees love him guessing about their wages while he disses policies and procedures they had no hand in making.
I would not call this a class act.
Moustache comb necklace provides well-groomed moustache rides
April 18, 2008 8:02am
Sounds like someone is jealous. And women don't sneeze unless you're kissing them the wrong way. Or doused in pepper?
Long-lost 1930s John Carter of Mars animation
April 12, 2008 7:22am
I hope you asked Mrs. Clampett for permission. She's very nice.
This was shown at San Diego Comic Con every year by Bob when he was alive.
IT WAS NEVER LOST.
Disneyland's Tiki Room turns 45 -- merch ahoy!
April 2, 2008 8:44am
Disneyland's Tiki Room was okay for my 2 year old last week. But the first time was 25 years ago when I went to all the song and dance attractions with a person who was deathly afraid of the rides. It opened up my eyes to possibilities there.
@ # 8 - It is the humidity. Disneyland has the better climate.
@ # 16 - For Jules Verne goodness - you'll have to go to Tokyo DisneySea.
Retro-futuristic Syd Mead illos from US Steel int'l promotional pack
March 28, 2008 8:45am
Syd is a pretty cool gent. Once at his studio, I pointed out that his spaceship was the tip of a fountain pen and got a chuckle out of him.
Wikihistory: sf story about the revert-wars among time-travellers -- "everybody kills Hitler on their first trip"
March 19, 2008 9:08am
No, but I do remember Alfred Bester's "The Men Who Murdered Mohammed" which posited the violence that one does in the time stream removes that person from the main time stream ...
Dave Stevens interview from The Comics Journal (1987)
March 17, 2008 4:14pm
I have been looking for my copy of that issue. I have it in a plastic box somewhere along with some pristine posters and prints and the Glamour magazine Dave did a cover for. I mentioned it in my blog . And Dave knew Cat knew that Frank Frazetta, Wally Wood, and Jack Kamen all used Betty as a model in various EC books. Dave knew this as well as Cat did. I wonder where Gary Groth got the idea she didn't.
Isn't everyone tired of perpetuating the myth Girls are not as geeky about comics as Guys are.
Disneyland's plans to change It's a Small World ires fans
March 6, 2008 8:36am
I've been saying for years that the boring ride would be better with some sort of weaponry that tagged the damned puppets. I can't say how much I despise the ride. Even when it is decked out for Christmas, it is detestable and deadly dull. And as to it being commercial — did you forget the boats were giant Pepsi Cola bottles when it debuted at the New York World's Fair?
Starbucks' formula has changed, let us count the (three) ways.
February 28, 2008 1:04pm
Here's a parody logo for the brand.

Pop-bottle rocket headed into orbit?
February 18, 2008 8:12pm
Perhaps he is launching the rocket from 5Km up using balloons as a launch pad?
Tarzan's tour guide to the San Fernando Valley
February 18, 2008 10:12am
I guess Ed would be proud, it's just many years too late to dub oneself Tarzan at this late date I suspect. Korak may be more appropriate. And as someone who grew up in the "valley of death" - the good stuff is gone. We just lost "the Weiner Factory" to a Pinkberry who stole their lease.
Another success in Homeland Security's War on Babies
February 16, 2008 1:30pm
Crazy horrible evil fuckheads. But inter-island flight has the most tight assed idiot TSA agents I've had to deal with. Worse than the friendly ones I've dealt with on international flights.
Poor parents. My heart go out to them.
Video: Purported Dell Call Center Employee Calls Customer "Little Girl"
February 16, 2008 8:51am
It's not required if you tell the customer up front. And the video is fake. Tech Support Reps tend to personally decorate their spaces to deal with the de-humanization that constantly dealing with the stupid brings to the job.
Star Wars Toys That Were Not to Be
February 14, 2008 9:30am
I have two of the Pepsi cups that were goodies from Taco Bell/ KFC / Pizza Hut. The concepts on the linked blog show love for the older trilogy. They may be the reason Lucas said no then.
Which book should Neil Gaiman put online for free?
February 11, 2008 7:03am
If anything, I'd want Stardust - the GN - to be free. It's bittersweet ending is perfect to get reluctant readers hooked.
My second choice would be Neverwhere ...
LEGO Indiana Jones Videogame Will Be Nazi-Free
February 8, 2008 9:32am
Movies and toys are different. I think kids get that. And NAZIs are stupid. Most adults get that.
Who cut the cheese? I mean the transoceanic 'net cables?
February 5, 2008 10:36pm
I was thinking that someone tried to do a tribute to Jules Verne's 20000 Leagues and goofed up traveling from the Red Sea to the Med via the submarine channel Nemo charted. But who would be such a mean hearted bastard? Blaming Enoch Root works for me though ...
Quotable: Levy on the Macbook Air
January 27, 2008 3:26am
As if people reading Boing Boing are afraid of body mod articles. You are hiding being phony regard for the foreskin to mask your real self. Because you know, we're the ones without the dick-cheese.
Kids grow up. And have sex. WHO and others are saving lives with their projects.
God Save Stan Lee tee
January 26, 2008 3:28am
Xeno? I was at Jack Kirby's funeral. Neither Jack or Roz were haters. They moved on. Hating Stan is pointless.
Quotable: Levy on the Macbook Air
January 25, 2008 1:37am
I then to attack FUD. There's a reason there's a word for dirty penis that also is used for especially stupid people in Yiddish.
From Wikipedia:
“... Circumcision is most common in the Middle East, the USA and parts of Africa and Asia. According to WHO 30% of men worldwide have had the procedure, mostly in developing countries where it is common for religious or cultural reasons.
Opponents of circumcision condemn infant circumcision as being medically unjustified and an infringement upon individual bodily rights, while advocates of circumcision regard it as a worthwhile public health measure, particularly in the control of HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa.
In March 2007 the World Health Organization and UNAIDS stated that male circumcision is an effective intervention for HIV prevention, but also stated that male circumcision only provides partial protection and should not replace other interventions to prevent the heterosexual transmission of HIV. ...”

Congress shuffle: Hollywood Howard Berman to move on, copyfighting Boucher to take over?
January 25, 2008 1:17am
Pictures would help those who'd confuse Berman with Sherman.
With all politicians - playing "follow the money" goes without saying.
God Save Stan Lee tee
January 25, 2008 1:07am
Thank goodness it is post hair-plug era Stan.
He's a warm wonderful person. God bless.
Papier maché skulls on Venice Beach
January 25, 2008 1:05am
Was this during a "day of the dead" week?
Quotable: Levy on the Macbook Air
January 24, 2008 4:22pm
Ha ha! Those of you afraid of getting "cut" can suffer foul smelling smegma for the duration of your lives. Circumcision is saving people from AIDS in Africa. Way to spread FUD.
Get over treating Jews and Muslims as 'others' you haters!
UK girls held in NYC orphanage after mother gets ill
January 24, 2008 4:13pm
Plucky mom and kids!
Someone has too much of the wrong kind of power to screw with tourists with money and a paid for hotel room. I'd sue the Child Protection Agency, the state, the mayor and the hotel for not stepping in and protecting the kids from all this.
And the mom will get a bill for it - I'll give odds on that.
They Started As Cheerleaders
January 24, 2008 4:04pm
Sally Field was a great cheerleader for the Birmingham Braves. I think Terry Gilliam was Student Body president at the school then.
RIP: Netscape Navigator (1994-2008)
December 29, 2007 10:13am
Remember when the web was DARPANET? RIP
New Disneyland monorails
December 20, 2007 11:15pm
Perfect! If we can get Disney to build a loop track from Anaheim to Downtown L.A. to LAX via Santa Monica and return to Disneyland through Long Beach and Costa Mesa.
Boing Boing t-shirt by COOP
December 20, 2007 5:17pm
The size choices sucked ... People are bigger these days.
Science Fiction Writers of America reinstates E-Piracy Committee -- new name, same chairman
November 29, 2007 11:08pm
Doesn't this indicate how out of touch those SFWA members are. I think if I were a member I'd be embarrassed for them.
I think Charlie should start an International Guild of Working Writers. He's creditable and smart.
Biofuel Koenigsegg Supercar Burns Fuel as Fast as You Can Grow It
November 26, 2007 8:32am
Now - let's see a 7 seater LUV with that engine. I want a biodiesel hybrid in 18 months.
Man Makes Life-Sized LEGO Minifig from Cardboard
November 23, 2007 8:50am
Not quite life-sized is it? Now, It needs a dab of paint to complete it. I'm betting it will be Princess Leia.
London Monument to disppear into the guts of monstrous accordion
November 23, 2007 8:47am
While I love the ACROS building in Fukuoka (Hopefully Chili Joe's is still in the park) - this is a very different idea. My thought are "Why not! Build it and enjoy!"
LEGO Battleship Yamato by Jun Brick
November 16, 2007 9:09am
The Anime one used the WWII as its' structural base AFAIR. This remains very awesome regardless.
Japanese women could be "safer" at night by wearing vending-machine disguises
October 21, 2007 8:54am
BTW - the artist claims she perfected this years ago.
Dumbledore is gay -- Rowling
October 20, 2007 9:47am
The news made my co-worker happy. And led to a discussion about the BBC show Thornwood's main protagonists being bi. Gay people need to hear that they are as normal as anyone else is.
Regulators order BBC Trust to meet with open source consortium over DRM player
October 16, 2007 2:53pm
Why not just buy a state government license for iTunes? Like what NPR does here.
Reinvention of the wheel seems bad.
Time Bandits map reproduction
October 16, 2007 1:05pm
"Mum. Dad! Don't touch that! It's evil!"
Yes I want one, I think the best picture would come from the Polaroid with the dwarves.
Counterfeit $1 million bill
October 10, 2007 10:55am
Neal Stephenson gave us the Gipper and Meese bills.
I so despise Reagan and his ilk.
Sulu's asteroid
October 9, 2007 8:32pm
I think we need more stories about George. His tales of his parents during WWII need to be archived somewhere.
Crashed drug plane owned by US Government?
October 9, 2007 4:59pm
Bush's dad also had a plane go down with cocaine in it. This is so horrific - as if we're experiencing all the bad GOP presidents wrapped in one.
Yahoo Music to record execs: No more DRM, ever
October 9, 2007 8:36am
We know where the problem comes from. And as a consumer I chose to buy recycled CDs rather than deal with DRM.
Atom Bomb Bikini No. 5
October 5, 2007 5:01pm
I 'll have to wait for a paycheck but I'm so buying this!
Tintin movie! Tintin movie! TINTIN MOVIE!
October 3, 2007 8:18am
It would devoid of grace or charm? That depends on the script. "Clutch Cargo" and "Space Angel" worked because the writing was above average. Nelvana's The Adventures of Tintin are available as are the books so no one is mind raping anyone's childhood.
Tintin can be good as “... Steven Spielberg, a lifelong fan of The Adventures of Tintin. Spielberg's love of the character is thought to have influenced the atmosphere and lead characterization in his Indiana Jones trilogy ...” but count me among those who'd hold their breath on this.
Terry Pratchett's "Making Money" -- economic comedy
September 29, 2007 7:41am
The book had me at 'extreme sneezing' - damn yes Moist is likable.
I prefer the Nightwatch books over the witches but will read any of the Susan books ... though you shouldn't miss the supposedly children's books like "Maurice and his Educated Rodents" as well as "A Hat Full of Sky" ...
New Mighty Mouse episode: The Ice Goose Cometh
September 28, 2007 6:03pm
Thanks for the Aladdin's Lamp link. That so rocked.
Hand knitted version of The Thing (Ben Grimm)
September 24, 2007 7:00pm
