Loyd Case on installing solar panels

from the article: "The net cost after the California rebate, Federal tax credit, and the Sunpower rebate came in at around $36K (not counting permit fees.) We ended up picking this oneānot just because it was the low bid, but because it was the most thorough."
Existing power load: "The net result is annual power consumption in the Case house of 17,400kW hours."
PV production: "So our estimated annual power bill will drop from about $4,400 a year to less than $1,100 a year, with the average cost per kWH dropping from 25 cents to 6.3 cents."
Spielberg to make live-action 3D 'Ghost in the Shell' movie

Monopole -- did you see AI or Minority Report? It's not likely that he'll make E.T. or Indiana Jones out of it.
Still, I'm underwhelmed at the idea of a remake, the movies are already beautiful and a redo is not likely to make them any better.
Wooden Coffee Cuff

@13, I go to Starbuck's when on the road and unable to find a Peets... you should thank them for the double-cupping, their tea water is about 211.9 degrees F. However, they will fill your cup, just like any other coffee shop.
Unfortunately, there's still no solution for the nasty dishwasher-proof way that coffee oils and milk fats permeate and bond to just about every non-porcelain vessel intended for coffee within a few weeks of use. What's worse, disposing of 50 cups/lids/rings, or disposing of a steel and plastic thermos after 50 uses?
Art film of zits being popped
March 13, 2008 8:31pm
hah, that was nothing... they were all whiteheads and blackheads! Now, if only some of the septic, pussy, oily, bloody, swollen blowouts I've had the pleasure to enjoy could have been captured. I'm talking about the kind of zit that pops audibly and sprays the mirror from three feet away with a broad fan of semi-liquid matter, or the kind of zit that actually produces sympathetic zits around it, or the kind that swells up around the base of the hair follicle like moss on a tree. Sure, a little blackhead might count as a zit, but it's hardly worthy of the name next to the kind of boil that has a week-long lifespan.

Just read a fascinating book full of similar cool pictures: Infrastructure, by Brian Hayes. http://www.amazon.com/Infrastructure-Field-Guide-Industrial-Landscape/dp/0393329593/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1204346044&sr=8-1

I can't help but wonder if their neighbors haven't caused the problem. That site is quite near a rather large steel plant, which has come under a lot of scrutiny for its emissions.
No friends yet.

trickledown, that's exactly the issue... a lot of policies are built around keeping businesses from being successful, and the end result is that a lot of Berkeley residents do 50% or more of their shopping in neighboring towns like Emeryville and El Cerrito. I do think it will change eventually, but I also think the Shattuck and Telegraph neighborhoods are going to get worse before they get better. Let's not forget that Cody's left Telegraph in the first place because of problems with crime, filth, and parking... problems that are endemic to both Telegraph and Shattuck shopping areas. It's harder to maintain a successful business when the sidewalks are covered with urine, broken glass and homeless people yelling obscenities at each other.
