You might also be interested to know that the Weather Station currently has a monthly residency at the Tranzac near Bloor and Brunswick. I saw them play at Wavelength recently (great weekly music series at Sneaky Dee's) and it was absolutely wonderful.

I saw a presentation of this at the Music Gallery in Toronto some time last year. The music is really amazing.

I mean if it's something especially unique or interesting then alright, but just because something is steampunk doesn't mean it's especially unique or interesting. And I don't find these particularly well done. Maybe I'm being a snob.

There's also a lot of zinesters in Halifax. The Anchor Archive is probably the best zine library I've ever seen (they also run a silk screening shop and an artist residency).

There's still a pretty hefty zine community in Toronto. The Toronto Zine Library operates out of the TRANZAC and zine review mag Broken Pencil just held its annual Canzine festival and it was busting at the seams.

It does seem like zines are a little more like portfolio padding than they use to be, but I might just be jaded. Lately they do seem to be more of a means to an end than a means unto themselves.
