Taibbi: Scariest thing about Palin isn't how unqualified... it's what candidacy says about America.

September 29, 2008 5:12pm

Charming, isn't it? The way that Palin supporters so ardently worship the Republican VP nominee, because of how MUCH she reminds them of themselves?

...And how much they HATE Obama fans for feeling the same way about their candidate?

And somehow, this makes the Obama contingent the Bad Guys?!

Can any of you Palinistas explain something to me? Please?

How is it that she's tough enough and strong enough and ready and able to take on Putin, Ahmadinejad and Il, in case something awful should happen to JMcC, but she can't screw up the necessary courage to go on an episode of "Meet The Press"?

Sarah Palin: spammer and digital secrecy scofflaw.

September 17, 2008 8:09am

I think we're starting to see the first serious cracks in the Palin facade - cracks that will really hurt her in a few weeks; Mainly, people will remember her boasting and positioning herself as her "own woman" and she "speaks her mind" and "calls 'em as she sees 'em", the conservative answer to Hillary - and suddenly here she is, squirreled away in a GOP think tank/rehearsal bunker, blurting out only scripted, pre-arranged answers to screened, pre-approved questions........

Within three weeks, I beleieve she will be recognized as what she is - just another low-level, ruthless politician with more ambition than ability, who was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime and jumped at it, while her blinkered, fundy self-certainism prevented her from giving barely a thought to what she was really getting into.

In short order, I think, she will become Tom Eagleton to McCain's George McGovern....

Come to think of it, it looks more like something from "Transformers"....

When the school administrators said "We're showing the boy that we can be REASONABLE".

Sweet Jesus Christ. I'd hate to see UNreasonable.

Poe's "The Raven," translated into 50s hipster argot

September 10, 2008 8:23am

I'm a volunteer DJ at a community-access station here in the cornrow wilds of central Illinois, and I'm gonna be playing Lord Buckley's version of "The Raven" this Halloween....along with stuff like Lord Sutch's "Jack The Ripper", Howlin' Wolf's "I Ain't Superstitious", Roky Erickson's "If You Have Ghosts", the Hoodoo Guru's "Dig It Up", Maggie Estep's "Ingeborg, Mistress of the Dark", the Dictator's "Science Gone Too Far!" and the Donner Party's "When You Die, Your Eyes Pop Out."

All are welcome........

Really.......doesn't anybody ever wonder why there is no Far-Right equivalent to "The Daily Show:" or "The Colbert Report"?

Because TRR is an example of the best that they can do.

......At least Cambell is introducing the idea that "organisms" can CHANGE....that they're not cast in immutable biological stone from the get-go, as many Creationists claim.....

When a confused kid understands that change is normal and natural, even UNAVOIDABLE, then they won't be so afraid of it - and that is VERY much the First Step when dealing with these control-freak evangelists.

BDSM Black Canary Barbie

July 16, 2008 12:35pm

I love the fact that there's a Tippi Hedren Barbie, getting assaulted by murderous crows - and it STILL doesn't wipe that goddamn smile off her face. There's such a thing as Too Much Sunny Disposition....

As for Black Canary, I'm just waiting to see how the fanboys that buy Batman action figures are going to react....

Nice, nice - but where's the targeting system?

Variable-scale ammo results would be an attractive feature -
Toast = Dimpled Ceiling.
Croissant = Minor Stipling.
Bagel = Plaster and Lathing.
Something along those lines....

Watch a commercial shredder devour an Asteroids cabinet

June 10, 2008 7:36pm

Hmmm.......Not Bad, Not Bad. I run a medium-grade shredder at my job. It can devour steel-belted radials and 2x4's, but it's used for document destruction.

But the most fun thing we ever sent through it was an empty plastic 5 gallon cooking oil jug from the cafeteria. Trust me, it goes off like a mortar round. BOOM!! A blast of air that you can feel from twenty feet away. Wheeeeeeeee!

Dave's Adjustable Hot Sauce lets you dial in the pain

Fergit hot SAUCES. I just take a handful of dried chiles, put 'em through a spice grinder and store the powder in a stainless steel "Pill Bottle" (the kind with a rubber 'O' ring) that attaches to my keyring. No worries about any liquids going rancid or freezing in cold weather. Just unscrew the tube from the cap and heat up whatever's on yer plate.

The only problems I've ever had are when nosy security drones refuse to take my word that "You Don't Want To Breathe That Too Deeply". They were warned........

Celebrity robot tee

April 19, 2008 9:04am

Where's Woody Allen's haywire Robo-Butler from "Sleeper"? (And it would suit the Black/White motif of the shirt very nicely...)

Yul Brynner's "Gunfighter" from "Westworld"?

And yeah, Vorear, "Robot Monster" woulda been perfect. Bored guy hanging around the set gets stuffed into a cheap gorilla suit and a fish bowl with rabbit ears for a head, waves his arms around and bumps into stuff. Sweet.

There MUST have been SOME way to get a Stepford Wife in there, but What the Hell.......they had to draw the line somewhere.....

Arantix Bicycle with Carbon Fiber Lattice Frame

January 9, 2008 2:37pm

Aah, what's the dif between crud caught in the frame and crud caught in the sprockets or cables? A good blast of compressed air and yer good to go....plus, "2.75 lbs"? Wouldn't that MORE than make up for any aerodynamic dysfunction?

No friends yet.
