Decorative, whimsical and lacy laser-etched hand-tools
May 16, 2008 7:48am
Ceci n'est pas un pipe wrench.
those aren't actually tools, but cut out silhouettes of tools: see flat screwdriver at top, and flat oil can... the saw is close to being a tool.
Man loses money trying to double it by marinating
May 15, 2008 12:56pm
They should have a P.T. Barnum Award, styled much like the Darwin Awards, but for fools and their money.
Seamless ice-spheres for superior whiskey-rocks
May 8, 2008 6:48am
"Ice melting adds the water that scientists have found to drastically increase tastiness."
Scientists? Tastiness? Citation needed.
Space aliens invade Canada
May 1, 2008 12:55pm
I remember this episode from The Brady Bunch. (Peter did it)
Micro-origami for drug delivery

Now, if we could only shrink down Dennis Quaid in a tiny vessel...
Appeals court reverses ruling: now border agents can search laptops without cause

Waiting rooms for hitchhikers - lost innovation from 1939
April 18, 2008 5:59am
too bad most hitchhikers don't look like that.
Only $50,000 for the Berwyn Spindle, the Vlad Tepes of cars
April 14, 2008 8:33am
NPR covered The Spindle last August on "All Things Considered":

It's a shame, the world needs more of this type of public art, and less Walgreens (the reason they are removing it).
New York Sun column: "Why I Let My 9-Year-Old Ride the Subway Alone"
April 11, 2008 12:42pm
I, too, immediately thought of Law & Order: SVU when reading this story.
This should become a new game for adults: Have your friends drop you off somewhere, and see if you can find your way home. I'd play that.
Camera glasses on sale -- goodbye, photography bans
April 8, 2008 7:09am
the downside to this, is that upskirt shots are a lot harder to take.
Slick Projector Alarm Clocks from Oregon Scientific
April 7, 2008 12:27pm
These clocks are big with the 50+ crowd, partly because you don't have to put on your glasses in the middle of the night to see what time it is. I have heard complaints just like what #2 experienced: Clock makers should build in the ability to rotate the projection to their desired angle.
One thing I don't see here, is a nice big lovable snooze bar.
Brickarms: Real-World Weapons for LEGO Minifigs
March 7, 2008 8:20am
I am totally impressed with the concept and execution of these... though they are a little too war-mongery for my tastes.
Bag with gun shape
March 4, 2008 11:23am
too bad that link goes to Microsoft's map - if it were Google, maybe we could get a street view of some douche getting frisked.
Creationist dioramas at kids' science fair
February 26, 2008 12:12pm
Not that I have any 'faith' in the judges, but perhaps the blue ribbon winner was the child who used the best scientific methods to prove their point.

Afghan war rugs in Smithsonian
February 13, 2008 11:38am
"Interestingly, the rugs depicting the planes crashing into the Twin Towers are based on images from US propaganda leaflets dropped on Afghanistan."
so... we gave them the idea?

February 5, 2008 1:11pm
"(my green solution is send it to refugee areas so they can use it a as water proof tents, clothes, etc.)"

HawkEye Field Sobriety Test Checks for Pupil Dilation
January 15, 2008 11:01am
"the war on drugs" is to drugs as "To Catch A Predator" is to stopping pedophilia. It's more about politics and fear, than it is about reality, science, or truth.
That said; most drug users I know are not functional, well-adjusted people, and would probably be a lot better off without drugs.
TSA's no-bid, data-leaking website was a complete screw-up: House Oversight Committee
January 11, 2008 1:41pm
So, who goes to jail for this?
(I know the answer)
TV-Be-Gone mischief at CES
January 11, 2008 6:16am
I think this person is a total jackass. This is CES - people are actively using all of those TV for their livelihood, turning them off isn't cute, it's obnoxious.
That said, most "pranks" are jackass moves.

Robert Shea, Illuminatus! co-author
October 25, 2007 7:11am
not to judge a book by it's cover, but that book cover is a crime... too bad.
Goth Raggedy Ann and Andy
October 24, 2007 1:55pm
I think it's a stretch to call these Raggedy Ann and Andy - aside from being dolls, there really isn't much similarity. The proportions are all wrong, and are those even button eyes? Andy seems almost musclebound.
Return of Diana camera after 35 years
October 10, 2007 7:35pm
But why would I pay $50 for one, when I have two different models of this on my shelf that I bought for $3 a piece? These are still readily available at flea markets, antiques malls, and yard sales.
I guess there is always the Urban Outfitters crowd that would pay that much.
Can "girl games" transcend shopping, fashion and babies?
October 3, 2007 8:29am
"...then they wouldn't like Ratchet and Clank. Or Mario Kart. Or Dance Dance Revolution. Or Wii Sports. Or Pokemon."
-- But those games are already being made. Just because girls like more than chocolate cupcakes, doesn't mean they need to stop making Barbie.
Nobody complained when they made another game about something that girls love: Nintendogs.
No friends yet.

One of the problems here is that the game wants to track your progress to keep you engaged. They are using BMI, because they can, and for kids, this isn't very standard. If they based it on weight, that wouldn't work either. Perhaps they should offer up different tracking for children who have not fully matured; like measure frequency and time spent in-game. Brain Age has a calendar, and special messages to encourage you to use the game often.
