I can't help but wonder whether or not the maker of these things was inspired by the scene in Jerzy Kosinski's "The Painted Bird" during which the jealous miller uses a spoon to pluck out the eyeballs of a 14-year-old plowboy and the cat then plays with the eyeballs when they fall to the floor. I read this book 30 years ago and that scene still disturbs me!
