Gasoline to cost $10 a gallon in US soon?

While I personally feel that non-petrol is the way to go an item worth a quick read on the American oil "crisis".

It is a little of sinister-overlordly, but just something to think about while you build your shelter and fill it up with ammo, canned foods and drinking water. :)
Internet goes dark at Navajo reservation

Re #6 "imagine not having your land stolen": I was not speaking of this case specifically, but in general. The money is not there just for natives, and I oppose it being collected as a federal tax to be redistributed anyone. Now if say, Verizon, wants to increase my rates so they can expand their network, fine. I can either accept a rate increase or look to another provider.

Re: #2 , they are not forced to stay there, the land is theirs to do what they want with. Near where I live there are three separate tribes with their own land. Two of the three do indeed resemble a rural ghetto (discarded mobile homes, abandoned cars, etc.). But one of the tribe's (Jamestown S'Klallam) has some very nice facilities and flies in the face of the stereotype. People are free to live as they please, anybody who wants to litter their property with cars and mobile homes can do that, and I am not judging. But to say they are being forced to live that way is a falsehood. Most tribes use casinos/fireworks/alcohol/cigarettes to get revenue, and good for them, exercising their privileges of living outside many state laws.

Federal money given to anybody to pay their phone/Internet bill is a waste. Imagine the concept of having to make your own way in life.

Combine:
1 Purchased OpenBSD CD Set (4.3)
2 Soekris net5501 boards w/ case
2 MiniPCI 802.11 cards
2 64MB CF Cards
2 Cantennas
Will let you whip up one nice wireless bridge or secure tunnel that any host can use. Plus, you'll have learned a lot about OpenBSD and the CD purchase supports development, so you can sleep at night.

Not sure how deep you're planning on going but i'd suggest a nice folding shovel and for all-purpose readiness and state laws considered, a gun, you can go simple with something like a Ruger Mark III (.22 cal) pistol. Ammo is cheap and if you need to, you can hunt small game for survival while you wait for S&R to arrive.

Movable Type now under a free license

#2 (Eduardo Padoan) : Freedom is no restrictions. BSD operates on the assumption that people are good and will operate fairly (of course they all don't..). But it gets the code out there and lets it be used by anybody how they wish. The basic mentality is to get the best possible code in use by all, for the good of everyone, and have it freely available for everyone.
With BSD you're not going to need to be calling in the lawyers when things get sticky.
In the context of some blogging software I think it is important in principle to use BSD, but for things that matter like secure communications it's nice to have (basically) everyone on the same page, using OpenSSH.

As far as freedom goes, I'd say a BSD license is tops.

Web site converts photos to vectors
November 21, 2007 1:09pm
Inkscape ( http://www.inkscape.org/ ) uses Potrace (http://potrace.sourceforge.net/ ) and optionally Autotrace ( http://autotrace.sourceforge.net/ ) for it's own raster to vector. It costs 100% less than the price of Illustrator CS or Corel, a.k.a free.
It runs on *nix & win32

1. Anything cast iron.
2. Unglazed ceramic bakeware. Once this stuff gets seasoned it is a wonderful natural non-stick cooking surface.
3. Maverick Model MM5501 Meat Grinder. I use this for making raw cat food, and I can testify to its' ability to devour whole chickens/turkeys (yes, bones too) and not blink an eye.

Well, if that Panasonic is more than you want to spend then my suggestion is not much better, but..here goes.
Canon HV20. MiniDV, Line-in, ext. mic, HDVI. 1080p.
I bought one around when they first came out in April and felt lucky to have found one somewhere they were still in stock. Availability still seems to be an issue, but this is a nice camera.
