Are images of the early Mickey Mouse still copyrighted?

I'd donate a couple bucks to a fund to go after the rights to Mickey and "Happy Birthday". A few million dollars will win those cases and set some legal precedents.
Apres CAPTCHA, le deluge

Btw, #4 made me giggle at this thought:
"To post this comment, please type the cure for cancer into the text box below and click submit."
Apres CAPTCHA, le deluge

To echo #1, I am a native English speaker who can see 20/20 with glasses and I sometimes have to try different captchas a dozen times to find one I can repeat correctly. Some of the case-sensitive ones use fonts that hardly differentiate between lowercase and caps! It was a useful and interesting tool, but it's had its day.
If the spammers can use AI, why can't we? Are we that far away from scripts that can equate "vi.Agra" with "Viagra?" How hard is it for a well-programmed piece of software to figure out that "MAKE $$$MONEY NOW" is not a typical headline for bulletin board postings?
Survival kit in a sardine tin

non-aspirin pain reliever - replace with aspirin in case of heart attack
chewing gum - wtf?
first aid instructions - see below
fish hook & line - if you need basic first aid instructions, can you catch, gut, and cook a fish?
note paper, pencil - for your memoirs?
tea bag - again, wtf?
whistle - can be replaced with "HELLLLP!"
I second the prophylactics. Can keep stuff waterproof, carry small amounts of water, and most useful if you're "the last man on earth" ;)
Smoking ban workaround in bars: Hold "theater nights"
February 25, 2008 4:51pm
Uh, dude, most of the servers you're trying to rescue from smoke are smokers themselves! Instead of helping them, you're adding to their stress and taxing the hell out of people who work hard for three dollars an hour before tips.
YOU try working a 12 hour shift waiting on groups of 15 people who want the check divided 8 different ways without a smoke.
Spoon management system at a hipster cafe

The signs are cute, but a good 25% of people are absolute morons who will not read or follow instructions. I see it everyday at my convenience store. They keep trying to open a locked door with a large, highlighted "CLOSED" sign on it. Having driven a car for years, they cannot figure out how to pump gas. They lock THEMSELVES in the bathroom! I expect independent coffee shops to have a smarter clientele than McDonald's, but I bet there's still a problem with people disregarding the signs and dumping their dirties in the clean cup.
The disposable stir sticks are no better because I see people fixing their coffee with sticks they pulled out with grease-blackened hands. I just shrug and hope that heat will kill the germs.
Board-game price-fixing
October 28, 2007 1:05am
This changes much more than the price of games. Imagine Amazon being forced to sell all books at full jacket price. At the same time, retailers like Walmart have the clout to force trinket manufacturers dependent on the store's shelf space to "reconsider" their MSRPs.
