Metal plates send messages to airport x-ray screeners

October 1, 2008 12:21pm

Ahhh, this reminds me of the time I brought my EFF Bill of Rights - Security Edition. It's a metal plate that you can put on your person. http://www.flickr.com/photos/pisceanelectron/2228211266/
I put it in my breast pocket and tried to go through the metal detector. I failed and they wanded me, took my passport and my Bill of Rights. I said to look at Amendment 4 "It's a good one". They gave it back and sent me on my way. I am probably in some database now... :D

Star Simpson's first interview on the Boston airport LED sweatshirt scare.

September 23, 2008 10:24pm

Star should have been acquitted of all charges. I guess though when you're facing the ultra-paranoid Boston police, fueled by the media, they don't want to back down. I love your comment, Star, about the justice system holding the case off until the press dies down. That isn't a good reason to delay trial. Are judges elected in Boston? But often justice can take awhile, especially when the case is as well known as this one.

As a hardware hacker myself my heart goes out to you. The average person doesn't understand electronics or exposed wiring. They think all wires can electrocute you. Wires are dangerous. Because they watch sensational TV shows their mind instantly jumps to conclusions.

Graph of world cement usage

June 17, 2008 11:43am

hmm, I wonder what the stats would be like if it included from year 1950-present? Or even 1900-present? I think we would see U.S. having a similar boom or at least sustained growth. I wonder how much of China is the Three Gorges Dam?

Amy Walker's "21 Accents" video

May 19, 2008 3:46pm

The difference between California (Los Angeles) and Seattle is that the California accent sounds like she is asking a question... typical of the San Fernando valley. Often referred to as "valspeak". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valspeak

California: Hello, I'm Amy Walker? I'm 25? and I was born in California. LA.

Seattle: Hello, I'm Amy Walker. I'm 25 and I was born in Seattle, Washington.
