Create your own Super Blockquote!
April 22, 2008 12:11pm
Pretty Cool.
FYI, you have to copy and paste the embeded code into a webpage... for instance, you could paste the code into your myspace page.
You really do need to have a large quotation to get the best effect because the words come out in regular font. So a paragraph or more is better.
I can't wait to throw this into some ebay auctions!!!
Droste Effect: when a package's artwork features the package itself
April 19, 2008 10:05am
A fun way of experiencing the Droste Effect or yourself...
Get a video camera that can play live on a TV or monitor.
Point the camera at the monitor.
Now experiment with moving the camera from side to side, twisting slightly, back and forth, etc...
Notice that you will get infinite generations of the screen image layered within each other.
Then you can put objects or your self between the monitor and camera!!!
Notice that when you move an object, you will see the movement in the layers/generations that move in sequence. It's almost spooky.
It's REALLY AMAZING and I can't even think about setting it up right now because I'll just lose a whole day playing...
But you have fun with. : )

Bad Questions to Ask a Transsexual + "Stunning": Calpernia Addams.
March 24, 2008 4:35pm
I don't know if this makes sense to others or not but I can sort of identify with Calpernia's problems, wait for it... having been a person from Kansas living in NYC. obviously it's not the same.
However, when certain people would learn that boring bit of information, they would often follow with many stupid questions and belittling comments. It was as if suddenly finding out that I'm from a "fly-over state" meant something about me that gave the other person an upper hand. I worked with a guy in a restaurant who thought it was cool to call me "Kansas" no matter how many times I told him not to. After all I have an actual name. This guy has a total Napoleon complex and was very close to getting punched on a few occasions. The fact that I'm from Kansas does not define me. The fact that this guy is a jackass does define him.
Conversely the same is true for TGs and the people that bother them.
As for pronouns, I always opt for the one that they want to be. So I would refer to Calpernia as he or she out of respect. I try to use the generic "you" when I'm not sure. Because to me, there's few things that I regret more than getting something like that wrong and hurting an innocent person feelings.

Air safety proposal: shock-bracelets controlled by flight attendants

Why don't they just cuff everyone to their seats?
Build a prank camera that shocks a sucker
March 18, 2008 3:16pm
Awesome. I use to have a laser pointer that would do that, I got it at 7/11. Something happened to it and instead of shocking when you just pucked the button, it would shock constantly and I could pick it up. So I smashed it.

Kansas high school official: woman "cannot be put in a position of authority over boys"
February 14, 2008 11:51am
I live in Lawrence, Kansas. I grew up on a farm smack dab in the middle of the state. Also I lived in NYC for 7 years and just moved back.
Lawrence is the most progressive city in the state and surrounding area.
Kansas can be very backward at times. This is the state that wanted to teach creationism. It's also the state that brought Brown vs. Board of Education.
It's also the state where the most popular type of restaurant is Buffet.
The good thing about this story is that it will cast a spotlight on St Mary's and maybe they'll have to wind their clocks forward about 50 years to catch up with the rest of society
