Amusing firing range targets

Of all the lame-duck justifications on this thread, this is my favourite. Because, know what? When/if the army DOES become an instrument of repression within the borders of the United States, your junior MAC-10 or penis-enhancing .45 will be more than enough to hold off a battalion of Marines.

Right. As we all know, especially after studying our own nation's history, there is no way a rag tag bunch of barely trained yokels can best the greatest military power in the world, or at least cause the greater force enough trouble that they eventually give up and go away.

Wait... How exactly did we manage to separate from Britain? What's happened in most of our wars this century? What's happening right now?

Here's another cliche: It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.

Another revolution or civil war, like those we've had, won't be quick, it won't be easy, but it will never be forgotten.

GRAHAM: So you need a gun to defend yourself from people with guns. Do you see ANY irony there? No? All right, carry on. And good luck surviving the next school/shopping mall 'incident'. I'm sure your Bruce Willis gun-skills will save the day.

No. As I've already stated, I do not carry. I have carefully chosen to live in a place that is very safe. I do not feel the need to carry a firearm for my safety, but I know that not everyone is able to so carefully choose where they live or work or shop or travel. I will never fully understand another's situation or fears so I will not presume to know the best way for them to keep themselves safe.

And no, there is no irony in keeping a firearm to defend against others using firearms, don't belive me? Look up the definition of irony.

No. But acknowledging that the worst can happen, and being prepared for it can keep you alive to go enjoy the good relations you've already made with people you care about.

Those larger caliber guns are like cherry bombs you can hold in your hand and not lose any fingers!

As long as you remember the slide. Always remember the slide.

I have a ton of fun a few times a month with my pistols at a public range. I don't carry or practice combat shooting for safety, though I may eventually.

I just find it very satisfying to get really good at something, shooting included. It's a wonderful feeling to go from occasionally hitting the target with a .22 to being able to consistently hit the center with a range calibers.

Oh, man and skeet shooting? Whoo! Blowing a moving target out of the sky is enormous fun. You can see the clay fly out and rise in the sky, then you blow it into a hundred pieces! You did that! Awesome fun.

Here, more primary sources on the development of the bomb, the planning of the missions, the bombings, and the aftermath than you can shake a stick at.

Hiroshima bomb pilot dies aged 92

More lives were saved by quickly ending the war than were killed by the two bombs.

Like anything, we can never be positive that is true. I believe it, and I am thankful that there are men and women who take such risks, not knowing what the final outcome will be.

What does it matter if anyone ever asked about his regrets? I'm sure he had regrets, about many many things. If he regretted his role in the bombing, even privately, then good. He was human. If he never regretted, even for a moment, his role in the bombing then good. He was human.

I won't delude myself into believing that I know best about this event that happened 60+ years ago.

With the administrator block, it's basically a phishing technique, though I suppose in the millions of people out there, there is probably someone guillable enough to actually fall for it.

Excellent comment. This 'news report' is from a company that makes money on viruses and the like. Sure, it's great that they're making the public aware of a potential problem. But it's like GlaxoSmithKline saying "You can get herpes by fucking without a condom! Also, we sell Valtrex if you make a mistake and act stupid."

Be smart. There's no excuse for not knowing the fundamentals and safe practices of the thing you're using. Cars, computers, ICBMs or your penis; if you don't know ask.

Death Cab for Cutie guitarist's album disappears down the DHS memory-hole

Someone carries an item from one nation into another, an item which apparently must be declared, and fails to properly declare it. Item is seized, item is analyzed, item is returned to location of seizure for pick up.

From the MTV article:
Milne said the reason the hard drive containing Walla's songs was taken had nothing to do with politics or security measures, but rather was a simple case of commercial merchandise — the tapes and drive, specifically — being brought across the border at an incorrect point and without necessary paperwork. Conspiracy theorists, he scoffed, should go look elsewhere.

A week later people who don't know anything more about the event than any other shmuck go all crazy cause they want to 'attribute to villainy what was caused by ignorance', and probably ignorance on the part of the traveler.

No friends yet.
