Little Brother, New York Times and Booksense bestseller!

May 15, 2008 5:32pm

@7 You know, I saw the first cover and thought "Frank Miller" because of the shadows and ink lines on the clothing. Yay for the new cover, yay for the bestsellingness, and yay for pixel-stained technopeasantry!

Is driving better than cycling?

May 14, 2008 11:38am

On the bike, I get at least 53 miles per burrito. Let's see Toyota top that!

Weekend Mayhem: Come Play Team Fortress 2 With Boing Boing!

May 2, 2008 5:12pm

I must be exceedingly lame, 'cause I can't find the server, either.

GTA IV world record attempt tonight, next door to BBtv

I hope his thumbs hold up. Twenty-five hours is a *lot* of button mashing.

Get involved in production of community-made SF movie: Artemis Eternal

April 29, 2008 5:57pm

You know, I'd love to donate, but I'd also like to know what the story is. Or might be. Or something. Could we get just a little more of a hint than that it's "about questioning what society expects of you and what we accept as normal"?

Pinkberry's "natural" desserts are made of toxic labratory gunk

April 23, 2008 3:08pm

I think we're all missing the most important point here: that Pinkberry is overpriced crap not worth getting worked up over in the first place.

US Judiciary opts to spend millions on accessing its own records, which are now available on the Web for free

April 4, 2008 8:09am

I just like the title "Rogue Archivist." Do his business cards have some kind of skull-and-crossbones-Dewey-Decimal mashed up logo?

Vintage cocaine party photos

March 31, 2008 12:46pm

And, just to get meta, a bunch of MeFi users recreated these shots in this Flickr pool, though without the Hires.

Insider's story about Atari

Mark, that link takes you to the About page. The Donkey Kong story lives here.

Cool story, thanks!

TSA at LAX still requiring air travelers to remove all electronics?

February 14, 2008 9:21am

Hey, I got caged, too! Flying from JFK to LAX last December. The best part was seeing the elderly, wheelchair-bound man who was caged with me have to *get up* from his chair so he could be frisked.

The TSA is in serious need of a nut punch.

No, JJ Abrams directed it. Here.

Skidoo airing on Turner Classic Movies

January 5, 2008 12:32pm

Wow.

That was one of the weirdest things I've seen on screen. I now have Carol Channing singing the theme song stuck in my head.

Skidoo airing on Turner Classic Movies

January 4, 2008 11:50am

I got my Tivo set for this. Can we have a follow-up thread for post-film discussion?

Mouth eye photoshop images

December 26, 2007 4:28pm

I enjoyed these photos...

Me, too. If by "enjoyed" you meant "was turned into a quivering, fetal mass in the corner." Eesh.

"Read my scripture!"

(Transmet fans will know what I mean.)

Story of quilts

December 6, 2007 12:28pm

When my wife and I got engaged, her Great-Aunt Pinky (her real name was Juanita, but she had red hair and the nickname stuck) started making us a quilt. Pinky died about four months before we got married, so her daughter finished the quilt and gave it to us on our wedding day.

It is a beautiful thing and incredibly comfy.

TSA warns TSA to be on the lookout for anti-terror agents

November 15, 2007 10:10am

I agree, ringmod76. The TSA seems like half its staff are indifferent, and the other half are busy covering the agency's ass. Glad I only have two more flights to make this year, and then I'm done until January 2009.

Brain-computer interface for Second Life

October 15, 2007 9:56am

This is very, very cool. As this controller becomes more refined and starts incorporating more SL commands (thought-controlled object construction? Sweet!), this is going to make virtual worlds that much more powerful as a storytelling/meeting/prototyping medium. And as virtual worlds start adding more gestural controls, this rig will live up to the promise of "Snow Crash."

I just hope they can filter out user frustration when the grid crashes.

Doris Lessing wins Nobel Prize for literature

October 11, 2007 1:16pm

...for she is, in some sense, both Canadian and a science fiction writer...

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how being born to British parents in Persia, growing up in Rhodesia, getting educated in England, moving back to Rhodesia then settling in London translates into being Canadian in any sense. I mean, yay for the Commonwealth and all, but, dude.

Interesting airport security photo
