Mysterious "Full-Automatic Mahjong Table"
May 7, 2008 3:16pm
Yeah, these things have been around for 10+ years.
The function is neat and gives good demo, but why would you want to dispose of that part of mahjong which involves the ouija board like participation in the shuffling of the tiles, and then the race to see who can stack up their wall first?
Death of the D.C. Madam

OMG. Are we going to invoke "conspiracy theory" to white wash over the incredibly strong evidence that this was a hit job for this case too?
Even the most cursory examination of the facts results in an overpowering stench of foul play.
25 minute composition: "The Most Unwanted Song"
April 17, 2008 9:34pm
As someone who has only dabbled in Piano and Guitar, I think it immediately becomes clear that certain sequences of notes don't go well together (maybe that's what people are calling "atonal".)
If I were going to play the most unwanted song, I'd just play all those notes that don't work together.
Of course, the best music will also break the rules and still sound good.
This song seems to still follow the basic rules of "good" music, and merely tries to be bad by clashing different styles.
That just makes it eclectic, not unwanted.
Access Denied: report on Internet censorship around the world

I've been hearing on the Radio about how the Internets is a big evil thing which is helping International Crime, and I'm starting to suck my thumb and I hope the Governments will come to rescue me from the series of tubes soon.

Just imagine what would have happened if he was scratching his butt and...oh nevermind.
Water filled plastic bags on trees scare bugs away?

Posting on Boing Boing about hanging water bags definitely attracts more comments than posting about how mortgage derivatives tanked the economy.

You know, I try not to become a complete conspiracy theorist, but stuff like this pushes me closer to the edge...

LONDON, Aug. 7 — There is a “strong probability” that the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Britain was caused by viruses that escaped somehow from a pair of veterinary laboratories where vaccines are made, a government report said today.
The disease was found in cattle on a second farm in southern England today, and 102 animals from that farm were slaughtered, British agricultural officials said.
That farm, and the first farm where the disease was confirmed, are both within a few miles of the laboratories, the government-run Institute of Animal Health and Merial Animal Health, a commercial facility run by a subsidiary of Merck & Co., the American pharmaceutical maker.

Well, if there is a break out, maybe we can send some Blonde Haired Blue Eyed Al Qaeda to set off a suitcase nuke to sterilize the area.
p.s., if you are for population control, why don't you lead by example.
McCain and conspiracy theorists agree that Washington is Satanic

Oh yeah...the mirror...
If only I hadn't loaned it to that Biyatch from Romper Room.
Looks like I'll have to take lessons from Ingo Swann if I ever want to regain that ability.

I was trying to think of a way to say this, but I think you said it best succinctly.
I do believe there are far more pagan / masonic / symbols to be found in Washington DC architecture than the easy Pentagram stuff.
But yep...more order through Chaos I guess.
Sunspots don't cause global warming, people do

The important take away from all this:
1) Let's be worried about Climate Change and do things to be less wasteful, less polluting, and to exist more harmoniously with the environment which we are a part of. The worry factor is useful to motivate individual and collective actions for a better environment.
2) Let's watch out for the bogus politicization of this issue (especially through the usage of orthodoxy and conflict inducing characterizations like "denialist morons") The worry factor should not be an enabler of increased government bureaucracy and overweaning social control policies. (And worst of all, as a scheme for some kind of world government.)
Nuclear detonators sent to Taiwan were from 1962

I'm surprised no-one has commented on the pretty blatant message this sends to China.
Much like accidentally playing the Taiwan national anthem when Hu-Jin Tao visited the U.S. and allowing a Falun Gong heckler into the media stands, these things are the stuff of Diplomatic posturing, while maintaining plausible deniability.
How mortgage-derviatives tanked the economy

To really understand the economic system that leads to cyclical booms and busts of which the subprime meltdown is only the latest, readers would do better to read "The Creature From Jekyll Island" by G. Edward Griffin.

This is part of a long term effort to create a new economy based on Carbon Offsets.
Perhaps this is an attempt to make an economy that is more environmentally friendly. Perhaps this is a scheme to combat inflation by absorbing all the excess cash floating around. Perhaps this is another attack on the middle class to keep them from getting rich. Perhaps this is another long range control mechanism that eventually will become obligatory and enslaving for all people.
Ooo, that sounds conspiratorial, but there it is.
Clearly implied in the offer and the comments is the implicit notion that we are all guilty and we "owe" for the Carbon we create. We can pay off our debt by transferring our wealth to someone who will erase our "debt"
Alex Stein:
"polluting is presently free to everyone. Offsets are a voluntary purchase."
Note the words "presently free"
I think that I should pollute less. I want to support people who pollute less. I don't think this should be obligatory, or foster any kind of greater Governmental control over the people by imposition of a sin tax. Such controls might sound necessary and good for Mother Earth, but the sad truth is they will be used to further the control of smaller groups of people over everyone else.
Let's keep up the Green Revolution, but let's do it with our minds engaged and thinking and not out of reactive guilt and "thought free" solutions.
If a bicycle offsets 6 tons, I can buy a lot of bicycles for $6000. Those bikes would not only offset carbon, but reduce health care costs, and turn their users into more engaged and thinking human beings, and best of all, they would be the proactive choice to be more responsible about enivronmental impact. The benefits are too long to list, actually.
