"It's like using thermodynamics to explain how an internal combustion engine works"
Umm . . . I'm also not a neuroscientist and I get your point but I think the laws of thermodynamics are more established and better understood than cognitive neuroscience or the workings of the human mind in general.

Not comparable.
Porn appeals to anyone with a libido; Moleskine appeals to hipsters with little to say and too much money to say it with.

I've lived in Seattle for 15 years--there is no accent, except whatever residue is left from wherever non-natives came from.
I agree with your Ballard assumption--they're just messing with your head.

“I’d say that maybe 3 out of 10 nights of numbering,we have some success,” Fahad explained.
"You mean that 3 out of 10 nights you get a girl to talk to you?” I asked.
“No, no,” Fahad laughed. “Maybe 3 out of 10 nights we get one phone number. Getting a girl to actually talk to you on the phone is much rarer. But it happens, so we’re always hoping.”
That's got to be one of the saddest posts I've ever read on Boingboing. What an awful place.
Imperial pint glasses declare European conformity

Whilst meanwhile, how many of the French have decided to move to London and it's environs because of the economic opportunity?
I've spent several years living on the continent (Baden-Wuertemburg) and enjoyed my time there immensely.
Although, I've never had the opportunity to live in France, I am sure it would also be rewarding in many ways, but not because of some of the rather idiotic little laws and regulations that the EU forces it's citizens to live by.
That said, this particular law regarding pint glass volume may well protect consumers, and perhaps isn't a bad regulation, at least not in that respect.
Additionally, I regret the sarcasm directed at your earlier post, although you may also have been overstating your case.
And on that note, I think it's time for a real pint--cheers, Luc!

Looks like you hurt Luc's feelings, John
Luc: Anyone who has experienced the combination of arrogance and idiocy that defines the edicts that come from Brussels know that it's neither "projecting" nor "prejudice".
And "Goldbergesque" is too kind.
Mazda destroys 4,703 shiny new cars worth $100 million
April 29, 2008 5:57pm
In all fairness to Mazda, any other manufacturer probably would have done the same--it was an issue of liability.
Since their vehicles had never been tested under those conditions (60 degree tilt), they could not know if they were safe--and remember if something popped up 10 years from now, they would still be liable.

Drug dealer vintage tax stamp
April 16, 2008 2:44pm
but the whole idea of making a law that you can't follow (thus making something "doubly illegal") really rubs me the wrong way.
They just want to be able to doubly punish you if you get caught with contraband. And if some well meaning dealer were actually to try and pay the tax, well, that would be a valuable "tip" as to who to arrest.
