Pint-sized motorcycle-engine-powered monowheel of yesteryear
March 28, 2008 9:39am
I seem to recall a spanish chap making a pushbike version of this - apparently it does somersaults when you hit the brakes.
Mur Lafferty's Wasteland -- book four of Heaven podcast
March 20, 2008 6:39am
Yes!
I've been waiting too long for this, including waiting for each episode of Earth as it came out.
Thanks, Mur!
Arthur C. Clarke dead at 90

The last of the Grand Masters has gone into the infinite future. I remember his article on T numbers, and am trying to figure out some maths to expand and explore the concept - he inspired me to to understand stuff that's so far in advance of everything, you need to invent the tools. I still think of Calindy whenever I taste honey.

All of love to you, your partner, and to Poesy!
Have a great time with all the joy you've got coming.
New Arbitrary TSA requirement: all electronics out of your bag (cables, too)
February 1, 2008 9:27am
It's all for a simple, logical, reason - they want to turn you into good germans. The thing I don't get is how the country that sent us packing for taking the piss out of them, allows these jumped-up little shits that think having a badge turns them into God, to get away with it.
Europe! Stop ISP spying, website blocking AND copyright extension with one call!

I've had a similar comment from him, so he's hopefully solid.
AT&T to Filter Internet Traffic; Comcast Investigated by FCC for Filtering Internet Traffic
January 10, 2008 3:00am
You know, the thought strikes me that, if they are going to filter for content, that would mean that they are no longer common carriers, and so they would be liable for each and every failure to filter something illegal. Anywhere. Look up jackdaniels.com from Saudi Arabia, and if a packet goes through their network...
IBM PC from 1981 hacked to play full-motion video
January 1, 2008 6:30am
Not bad, but it looks like character graphics, which isnt too demanding. I remember running Moraff's VGAArt on a Hercules Mono card on my old XT.
Lakota Natives Withdraw Treaties with U.S.
December 30, 2007 3:42am
Scottfree,
The fact that the Lakota nation are legally in the right isn't helping them much - 150 years has shown what US governments think of the treaties, and Gitmo and the NSA wiretapping fuss & the current attempts to let the telecoms companies off the hook show what the current administration think of the rule of law.
Wireless Tasers Fired from Shotguns
December 11, 2007 1:06pm
Thomas: When the guy on the receiving end had a heart attack.
If they were being used in place of guns, they would be a good thing; instead, there are arseholes using them at the slightest excuse. Mind you, the same arseholes were probably using their billys at the slightest excuse before Tom invented his rifle.
Rogers ISP of Canada breaks into your browsing session to tell you off for using the net too much
December 11, 2007 12:58pm
I have a friend who uses rogers who told me that if he links to a page, then someone following the link gets added to his bandwidth usage.
I'm pretty sure that's not how things work, but if they're telling him that...
Kenwood Major Titanium Mixer; Your Top 5 Kitchen Gadgets
November 6, 2007 8:07am
If you don't want to drop a grand on a new Kenwood, get a second hand Chef - I've got a couple of A901s. G_d knows how old they are but they just don't give up. I've just picked up an A900 (the original Chef) - it's got to be 40 or 50 years old, and it still works a treat.
Finnish folk band find a rude airport welcome
October 30, 2007 6:02am
Well, as Graham pointed out,at least they wouldn't do that to someone important...
Radiohead downloads were just a tactic to boost CD sales?
October 20, 2007 1:49am
As people are saying - just a promotion? Is craphound just a promotion? Are Baen's free download's just a promotion?
"Here it is. Try it. If you like it, and want a shiny professional version you can hold in your hand, you can buy it". Sounds good to me.
Science Fiction Writers of America abuses the DMCA

Two suggestions for everyone:
1. Email support@scribd.com complaining that you can't access the book. Refer to this article to rebut the notice, and ask for access to be restored.
2. (Perhaps some feedback from Cory before taking action on this one). Everyone set up an account on scribd.com and upload a copy of Down & Out, and maybe a few more CC novels.
Phil.
