So, Sony, where's your netbook?

September 23, 2008 6:35am

Unfortunately, their picturebook series notebooks were the TT back in the day and costed an arm and a leg.

I don't think Sony wants to cheapen their name for the netbook segment especially since the margins are so low there.

MobileMe and Gmail: Pick one or expect frustration

If you're uploading photos via the email, they resize the photos from the 2 megapixel 1600x1200 rez down to 640x480 crap. If you're running a jailbroken 1.1.4 phone still, SendPic will get around that issue, but I don't know if that exists on 2.0 yet or not.

No video recording! Even crappy phones can do this.

Who's bugged by Jobs' weight loss?

I dunno, he looked manorexic to me. His jeans looked ill fitting and his shirt literally hung off of his skeletal figure.

Review: A week with Sony's Vaio TZ Premium subnotebook

April 14, 2008 1:26pm

I actually am running a hacked osx86 version on a sony TX, and it is the perfect computer for me. The only thing missing is power management (but it runs 5 hours on a charge) and 2 finger scrolling, but I'll live.

Week in the Woods: Need to Get My Computer Decision Made

I don't know about the Sony VAIO TZ but my TXN15 consistently gave me at least 6 to 8 hours of usage with wifi on. They come with Sprint EVDO modems built in with a free trial.

From my understanding the Sony TX is the choice for all those video "life-casting" bloggers since it sips battery juice very slowly.

Only downside is you'd have to live with Windows for a week.

Video: Max Silvestri Endorses McCain (and I Shoot It with my Sanyo Xacti CG6)

March 19, 2008 8:12am

Only issue I have with the Sanyo (which I have the same one) is that it sucks for low light situations for both camera and video recording and every now and then, it will freeze up and choke on the last video I shot. Although I'm suspicious that the latter might be because of crappy SD cards.

Oh, and you can't edit the h.264 videos very well on iMovie (from iLife 06) since the transition audio goes haywire for fade-outs and cross-dissolves. So you have to convert everything to DV (pain in the ass).

Sony PRS-505 Reader eBook Reviewed (Verdict: Better, If Barely)

October 10, 2007 8:40am

Seeing how you can get the old version from sony for 50 bucks (by signing up for a sony rewards credit card), there is no reason to purchase the newer version for 250 bucks more just to have a newly designed case and a little better refresh rate.

Apple's Hubris

September 20, 2007 10:58am

I was thinking the same thing when I read it this morning and didn't really put it so succinctly in my blog posts about Apple's mis-steps lately.

Although, I don't think Apple ever had the mantra of "don't be evil/greedy" but I do think they should start just focusing on what they do best, innovate and design and leave the control-freak tendencies to others to worry about.
