The pleasures and perils of chasing book thieves
March 8, 2008 8:25am
I must admit that the list is odd, though not inscrutable: Bukowski and Burroughs write 'homeless fiction', if such a genre exists.
And, as for the magical books and tomes, imho, there is something mysterious and secretive about finding a grimoire in a library as opposed to a bookstore.

SE7A7N7 says: "How long would it take someone to make a free widget that does the same thing? Like 30 minutes?"

Starbucks' formula has changed, let us count the (three) ways.
February 27, 2008 10:16pm
The Chai syrup Tazo supplies to the Starbucks cafes is different from the Chai concentrate available in Barnes and Nobles Bookstore cafes, supermarkets and other fine outlets. The Starbucks Chai syrup comes in a white container, whereas the consumer Chai concentrate comes in a beige container.
When, oh when, will Tazo make the thicker, heavier, chai syrup available to the consumer, so that I may slurp up obscenely sweet chai all day long?

Clouds that look like UFOs
February 27, 2008 10:09pm
Lenticular clouds are quite beautiful, and I wonder how many people today mistake them for UFOs. This number could hint at how many earlier UFO sightings may have been cloud formations mistaken for chariots of the gods.
The dry phrases above mask the overwhelming wonder I experience over aerial anomalies.
If only I could conjure a sentiment to express my brightening vision.

Such a form as grecian goldsmiths make of hammered gold and gold enamelling.
The steampunk, the 19th century, and grecian invention: a genre, a revolution, and a golden age.
Like hunter-gatherer art made with cast-off factory wares.
Interesting and beautiful.
