Well, they make thongs for young girls. Can't get any stupider than that.

Best thing to do with nine-year-old girls is get them involved in sports.
That way, they're hot - and sweaty.

Steve Jobs on the Segway: "It sucks! Sucks! It just does!"

July 8, 2008 4:40pm

Wasn't Jobs the one who said when it was called Ginger: 'We will build cities around it.' Or something prescient like that?

George Takei and Brad Altman first to get marriage license in West Hollywood

Takuan:

I'll go out on a limb and say the U. S. Supreme Court would overturn witch-burning.

Right now, there's no national policy on gay marriage. It's a state-by-state issue, right?

George Takei and Brad Altman first to get marriage license in West Hollywood

June 18, 2008 9:29am

I give it five months. The voters in California
already voted on this and they're aggravated that the judicial system overturned their decision.

Legally, it's arguable there is no denial of rights since any gay person can get married right now - just not to someone of the same sex.

And while it's splitting hairs, it's probably enough of a rationale - along with the allowance of domestic partnership - to say 'go ahead and have a legally-binding relationship. Just don't call it marriage.'

Just a prediction. As good or bad as the next person's.

"Global warming will have many unpredictable results."

No matter what, it's global warming.

THAT is genius.

Jared Diamond on vengeance

April 27, 2008 9:22am

I liked G, G and S because Diamond posed an interesting question: why did black people in sub-Saharan Africa not evolve technologically even though they represented the 'cradle of civilization'? Then he explored it.

I did not like Collapse because he seemed determined to write an environmental cautionary tale and, predictably, each collapse was the result of human eco-error.

Photo of pro-Tibet protest on Golden Gate Bridge

I get the sense that many people think Tibet is some tiny kingdom with incense and monks. It is the size of Texas and California combined. An immense chunk of land with all the attendant resources. I abhor communist dictatorships, like Cuba, but I think, to the Chinese government, there's much more at stake here than a resistance to cultural independence.

Reasoned debate:

http://climatedebatedaily.com/

Why anthropogenic global warming is not a distraction or small matter: were it scientifically proven humans are causing climate change, governments will tax us for our "responsibility." It is the key issue.
