#19: I think that by saying "many" you wanted to say "a few". In the large majority of countries, removing DRM is 100% legal.

I think I have an italian translation of these strips at home; probably from a reprint from the 70s. I look for them these evening at home, and post the scans if can find them.
Photo of honor system at bookstore in Ojai, CA
April 14, 2008 12:37pm
I'm from Italy, honestly I have never seen an honor payment method here, except for candles in the curches.
On the other hand, when I was visiting a friend in Denmark, I saw a cart left on the border of the street (close to Elsinor) with different kinds of vegetables on it. You could choose, weight and leave the exact amount of money.
Help UK Member of Parliament defend photographers' rights
April 12, 2008 5:48pm
I was in London for Easter holydays, I had already seen the fearmercial here, but I read it already on a free newspaper there.
On Easter day I was in a tube station in the city, me and my girlfirend were the only ones there, it felt so odd that I had to take a picture.
Just after shooting I realised that there was a tube worker staring at me, I sudently remembered the "odd photo" and felt a chill down my spine. It was spooky.
Man whose house was hit by five meteors believes he is targeted by aliens
April 9, 2008 4:59am
5 unrelated meteorite hits are not a simple coincidence: it's an hoax!
#1: Sven is not really a Serbian name, sometime I have used, and heard, Boris as the typical Serb; I don't know if it is widespread.
Amsterdam currency exchangers won't take US dollars
March 18, 2008 1:56pm
Small outlets are always thieves, and you should not change your currency there, unless forced to. So they are doing a favour to American tourist (maybe a favor?) by rejecting them.
On the other hand, I don't see how they can't just use a cash dispenser to get some euros.
Cellphone charms illustrate the six stages of drunkenness
March 18, 2008 1:53pm
I've never been in the angry drunk state, nevertheless I'm quite familiar with the other 5 stages.
Do coat hangers sound as good as Monster cables?
March 3, 2008 2:05pm
I've an old-style HiFi at home, one of those composed of big solid metal boxes with one component each (tuner, tape player, cd player, amplifier, vinyl); my father has always used standard electric wires to connect the loudspeakers, I have never noticed any difference compared to HiFis using expensive cables.
Awesome rant against Diet Pepsi
February 28, 2008 3:03pm
Many people, and I'm among them, cannot stand the taste of aspartame. Many other people don't dislike it, it's a matter of taste.
De gustibus non est disputandum.
TED 2008 -- Garrett Lisi's E8 Theory of Everything
February 28, 2008 3:00pm
I work with quantum physics everyday; I think this theories are like more like poetry than science: they are beautiful, but has provide no, or little, objective insight on how the universe works.
On the other hand, it cannot hurt and it may as well bring some insight if it prove able to predict some experimental data.
The fact that the dude is a surfer well, Feynmann was a bongo player.
Steampunk CD player
February 27, 2008 1:45am
Well, it's a nice piece of furniture, even if it won't fit in my house; and a nicely crafted handwork too.
But, are you getting a bit obsessed with steampunk lately?

Sim card data extractor gadget
February 21, 2008 1:57pm
You can buy this sort of stuff for a few € in many places. I don't know if they are capable of reading deleted messages, nor if they can bypass a PIN protection on the card.
Melt a beer bottle in a microwave
February 13, 2008 3:54pm
The physical explanation actually makes sense; but I don't believe for a second that those engineers forgot the bowl of water for 10 ours in the µhoven by mistake.
Computers piece together millions of shredded Stasi documents
January 23, 2008 5:16am
If you are interested is the history of Stasi, or you just like nice films, you should really watch "The Lives of Others".

January 15, 2008 7:48am
Just a little trivia: Piegato means Folded in italian.
TSA's new forbidden item: >2 gm lithium batteries
December 28, 2007 9:30am
I'm no native English speaker; could someone please confirm that Carry-On luggage is the one you bring with you in the cabin? I may have to go to the USA in a relatively short time and I would be really pissed off if I had bring the laptop with me (airport workers can be very heavy-handed, not to speak about thieves) but leave the battery in the luggage.

The fact that the cars could be sold for 100M$ does not mean that they cost that much to produce. Nevertheless, it is a painful waste, provided the rising cost of energy and lack of raw materials.
