Space aliens invade Canada

May 1, 2008 11:03am

@1:
If that was the case, they should have picked a different city. The Calgary Health Region is pretty over worked and wait times can get really long.

I'd like to know how these 'aliens' are created. The link for the article has been boingboinged.

Copyright crazies gaining steam in Canada

April 26, 2008 8:54am

Wow, this is really sad news.

Copyright laws are huge with me, but not everyone... Trying to convince family members and friends to not vote Conservative was one thing, but now we have to tell them to vote NDP. That will be neigh impossible.

Time to write some letters.

NatureMill PRO Indoor Composter

But it's $300 for something you could build yourself for less than $50...

NatureMill PRO Indoor Composter

The only application where I could see this being usefull is if you live in an appartment building or you don't have access/aren't allowed to build your own compost heap in the back yard.

My family built their own open compost heap and have been using it for years. It doesn't consit of much more then a few 2x4's and some chicken wire and it works quite well. The smell of our own home-made version sounds any worse then what this $300 model is advertising even though our model is freely exposed to the air.

The only reason I would advise against putting cat litter in a compost heap is that cat litter contains a lot of clay. The clay wont break down too much in the composter ( and my gut tells me it would just fossilise the cat crap ) and I don't think you want all this extra clay in your garden ( if that's what you use your compose for ).

Afghanistan: death sentence for downloading, distributing report on oppression of women

February 1, 2008 8:37pm

The biggest thing that erks me is that this happend in Afghanistan.

The war in Afghanistan is not a popular one for Canadians. Many Canadians feel that the our actions to improve the country are having little or no effect. Sure there is democracy there now... but if you can get killed over your thoughts on religon it just makes me think 'what's the point?'.

Amazon buys Audible, promises to kill DRM if we complain

January 31, 2008 2:55pm

I'd agree that contacting audible or amazon about this may be the best way to get amazon to drop the DRM.

If you want more free and DRM-free audio books check out http://librivox.org/ . They have lots of audio books from the public domain.

Asus Takes Aim at iMac with New Eee Desktops

January 31, 2008 12:53pm

The thing that blew me away was the 42 inch LCD TV for ~$200, that is rediculously cheap. Even if the actual price doubles it will still be cheap.

Premier of Alberta threatens to sue blogging uni student for registering a domain with his name in it

January 9, 2008 11:41am

It's kinda funny, I read about this in the paper news before reading about it here.

One thing I read was that edstelmach.ca just points to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_E._Strom. I don't know enough about Alberta politics to get the joke but this is basically just a lazy Google Bomb.

I remember reading that some Polish politician was going to sue a kid to made a Google Bomb of his name to the word 'penis'.... How did that all turn out? Have any events like this been resolved in Canada?

Canadian DMCA rally in Calgary -- photos, videos, reports

December 10, 2007 4:22am

Another thing to note too is that during the rally there were members of the press there too.

A local CTV affiliate showed up and we ended up getting a little TV time.

Also two reporters from the CBC ( one from SearchEngine ) showed up to try and talk with Prentice. They were very friendly and interviewed several of us there.

No friends yet.
