Ancient Roman D20 for sale, $18,000

June 14, 2008 7:02am

I wonder if the die was perhaps used for divination of some kind.

Either gambling or divination, and if you spend much time in a casino, you'll see that there's really very little difference between the two.

Surveillance sign's Freudian slip

May 24, 2008 6:38am

Pretty much all the signs on that website are an example of people who think quotation marks are for emphasis. That's what makes them funny to people who read things in quotes sarcastically.

BB reader: "Two FBI agents just showed up at my door for taking photos in the Port of Los Angeles"

May 14, 2008 3:20pm

That's how it usually goes; private individuals who think they're Protecting The World from Terrorism are always scarier than the actual FBI agents, who are usually pretty reasonable.

I was just thinking about my old German prof before I read this, his parents were first-generation German Americans who owned a German restaurant that they lived above, and the FBI was always getting calls that there were *gasp* lights on after hours over the Schnitzelbank!

And the FBI agents were always reasonable, it was just nosy folks who sooo wanted to find a Nazi in their own backyard.

Kids scare each other by impersonating online pedophiles

April 30, 2008 2:07pm

I can so see kids doing this, too.

So now it goes "The internet: where the men are men, the women are men, the children are FBI agents, and the pedophiles are children"

McCain and conspiracy theorists agree that Washington is Satanic

April 10, 2008 7:57am

Is there any real reason to read McCain's comments "ZOMG SATANIC PENTANGRAMS AND STUFF" rather than, you know, just generically saying "national politics is kind of evil, albeit a necessary evil" -- which is kind of the idea of liberal democracy?

The pleasures and perils of chasing book thieves

March 7, 2008 1:37pm

A lot of people will steal "Satanic" books to "protect" other people from reading them.

Obsolete skills

THAC0 will never be obsolete!

What do old people look like?

February 9, 2008 8:52pm

this is why people develop sarcasm, to deal with people who think it's cute to ask stupid questions like this.

Bowed Piano Ensemble

February 6, 2008 2:12pm

If you watch Ben Folds (particularly Ben Folds Five Sessions at West 54th) he does a lot of odd things with his piano, including playing it rather like a harp and, at one point, running a microphone across the strings. Very fun stuff.

Things that have always been true for the class of 2011

February 3, 2008 8:11am

I was a victim of a ton of these, in the CLASS OF 2000 (you have to say that in a science-fiction voice, similar to Conan O'Brien's IN THE YEAR 2000, for full effect) and nearly all of the most-repeated ones were all totally wrong for me. It was frankly insulting.

Also... I still roll down my car windows... maybe the people who make these lists drive new every two... I don't.

More US Warcraft players than farmers

October 22, 2007 8:59am

Ever hear of RP servers? Plenty of WoW players actually are doing something creative. It's not high art, but it beats drinking lite beer and gambling. Sure, you could always be writing the Great American Novel or something, but as a social outlet for your downtime it's pretty cool.
