Modern Mechanix Round-UP

The person who invented the baggage smasher must've made so much money, since they seemed to have employed the idea at US Postal Service and every airport for very thorough testing of every box and every bag.

Ahhh....it makes so much sense now. That must be where Mitt Romney got his idea to take his family dog on a road trip with the carrier strapped to the top of the car.

English instructional kids' blocks -- unintentional comedy

That's pretty funny, since the Chinese word for "tank" is based on the phonetic pronunciation of the English word. Just like the way the Chinese words for a lot of names and places originating (New York, Tom Cruise, etc) in other languages is based on the phonetic pronunciation of those words in the originating language.

I think it's John Locke. He really doesn't want the Losties to get off the island.

Howard Rheingold's 1994 sketches for HotWired

I don't remember those particular colors on Hotwired. However, I do remember when Hotwired had those graphics but in bright red and gold that hurt my eyes or otherwise unreadable, it was in 1996. At that point, Wired Magazine lost its credibility to me and I never picked up another issue nor went back to the website again.

How Circuit City Committed Suicide

I've seen this happen at REI too based on my friends who were long time REI employees. They were forced out when the store management started taking hours away from senior sales associates.

But one especially alarming example of this practice is when another friend was shopping for climbing harness at REI and received bad buying advice from a sales associate. When it comes to climbing gear, this really could be the difference between life or death.

I remember opening NCSA Mosaic back in '93 on a Sparcstation using Openwindows, it was like the heavens opened and angels sang when I browsed the Zima website.

Remember web 1.0, when they introduced frames to HTML and people complained endlessly? And 90% of webpages had the default gray background with the "under construction" icon surrounded by blink tags. I don't miss those days.
