Loony evangelical claims credit for Canadian film tax-credit changes that will doom edgy indie movies
February 29, 2008 5:40am
Have fun Canada, this must be karma punishing you for all those years of making fun of the U.S. and our Evangelicals. It's not as funny when it's happening to you huh? I'll give you credit though, at least your Evangelicals haven't started a war yet. :)
Home Depot customer detained by DC police for not showing receipt
February 27, 2008 8:28pm
I've been to that Home depot, it's the only one in the city. My breaking point came when I saw a guy get shot down by off-duty police officers in the parking lot. Don't feel too bad for him though, he was waving his gun around the store first.
I think the reason they ask to see a recept there s that they put the self checkout lanes closest to the door (smart move huh) I can vouch though, I've never seen a sign there saying "Have your receipt ready"

Finally, a way to diffuse my LEDs AND use my Captain Kangaroo-esque collection of ping-pong balls.
Graffiti at the National Portrait Gallery
February 20, 2008 12:20pm
NICE! I live right down the street from here, I'm going to need to stop by this weekend.
The American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore had a great Graffiti exhibit a few years ago too. Anyone in the area needs to check that place out!
Photo-bans at pop art shows -- irony impairment, or Dadaism?
November 13, 2007 6:38am
There was a beautiful exhibit at the Renwick Gallery, part of the Smithsonian, of the Portuguese trading empire. It was huge, spanning three continents, hundreds of years, many religions and filling the entire museum. Beautiful pieces of art and luxuries from China, Japan, East Indies, India, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Nothing was younger than 200 years old...except for in the back corner of a far flung corridor that I almost missed. There was one, single contemporary work of Portuguese art. It had nothing to do with any other part of the exhibit, but because of it, I could not photograph anything else in exhibit. As a final bit of Irony, because if its out of the way location, I had zero trouble photographing it.
Due process too much hassle for DC dept. of motor vehicles
November 12, 2007 2:26pm
DC is already overzealous in its ticketing. Several times I have received a $100 ticket at precisely 7AM for parking in a rush hour zone. I understand the need to make room for all the Virginians invading my city, but I'm doing my part to make their commute a little more unbearable so that maybe they'll move into the district like civilized people. Anyway, isn't $100 a minute a little steep?

HOWTO frighten children and disturb adults:
1. Dismember your doll
2. Arrange hands and feet on board in an order you like. Space them evenly apart, marking their positions with a pen or pencil. Set limbs aside.
3. Drill 3 holes per limb. I counter sank the holes so the board would lie flat against the wall. Make sure your holes will not come too close to the edge of the limb, because the screw make poke out of the side of a hand or foot.
4. Position keyhole hanger and mark the spot. Chisel out the wood until the hanger fits snugly and until the drywall screws’ heads fit.
