Disneyland bans pictures in its parking lots

I habitually take photos of parking lot signs.
That way I can actually find my car again at the end of the day.
Super-premium theater chain in the US to sell $35 movie tickets
March 28, 2008 6:21am
They have their business model all wrong. They are offering an enhanced experience over the multiplex for a premium price. In reality, they are competing with cut price DVDs and home theatre setups that offer everything that they do only substituting in the in seat service button instead of the pause button and a walk to the refrigerator.
$35 per ticket (plus another $35 for your date) will buy you 3-4 new release DVDs on amazon, or 2 full season box sets of a tv show. Of course there are other options if you don't like the clutter of DVD cases, say....
Still, anything is better than the multiplex queuing experience.
The Odeon on Leicester square is £15 (US$30) on the weekend, as are most of the cinemas in London showing indie fare. And the seats are comfy, but definitely economy class.
WWII Bomber: "Trademark Infringement"
March 21, 2008 11:52am
Calm down, NOENgrinch.
I read every word.... before the jump, and 'trademark' wasn't mentioned once.
I notice now that it was in the title, but who reads the title when there is a cool picture of an aeroplane to distract you.
WWII Bomber: "Trademark Infringement"

Is a WWII military aircraft design in copyright? All 'general issue' military equipment has to go through a contracting process where the design is handed over to the government, and any manufacturer can then tender to actually build the kit.
WorkTunes Hearing Protection Muffs
March 12, 2008 7:20am
These (or similar) are pretty common for tractor drivers in my agrarian home town.
As pointed out, the attenuation is no good for really noisy stuff like jackhammers, angle grinders and jet engines.
But if you have to work somewhere with constant low level noise all day (such as a server room or riding a lawnmower) then these cut down on both ear fatigue AND boredom.
Clive Thompson on the Death of Audiophilia
January 7, 2008 7:31am
Digital music files haven't caused the death of Hi-Fi. CDs were also touted as being the death of quality listening.
Frankly, the ridiculous claims of audiophiles and the 'snake oil' companies that prey on them have simply made it too embarrassing to admit that you own high quality audio equipment.
No friends yet.

The London Science Museum machine shop model is in an area of the floor devoted to Whitworth and early industrial revolution machine tools. Whitworth rose to prominence as an employee of Joseph Clement, the manufacturer of the difference engine. None more steampunk.
