HOWTO Get a load of hard-disk space back

Yikes, epic, epic fail for Thunderbird's default setting, and for the mbox format.
When I empty the trash, I assume that what was in there is no longer within easy reach of the narcs, the tax collector, the church police, my girlfriend, and the BDA (take that, Lemming!).
As someone who has archived mail for a decade and a half, I wonder how many people out there are unable to use a MacBook Air solely because of Thunderbird's bad behaviour.

Saudi religious police attacked by girls
September 26, 2007 1:11pm
@Willibro, by politeness I meant not hopping on a public forum and repeating all kinds of stereotyped crap about the Ay-rabs. The comments here sound like an elementary schoolyard in the 1960s.
Saudi religious police attacked by girls

In a “civilized” country those girls would be tossed in the slammer for assaulting an officer with a weapon. Nice to see that an apology still counts for something somewhere.
And to some of the commenters here: isn’t politeness and showing basic respect a sign of being civilized?
