Tibet and the China Olympics: calling out the sponsors
April 26, 2008 6:58am
Bringing the issues in Tibet more out in the open makes this the first Olympics that I've been sort of into. Let us hope that, in the end, it actually makes a difference in bringing about change.
Fuck You, Razr: The Monkey's Paw of Cellular Phones
April 21, 2008 3:27pm
Wow, I have a Razr and don't really mind it. The calendar and alarm clock work fine and are easy to change around. I can make and receive calls no problem.
My only complain was Verizon having disabled a few features so that they could milk more money off of rigntones and mp3s, but after a little effort hacking, I was able to upload the "mail me" ringtone from Suicide Club into it.
Woman goes on YouTube to air divorce grievances
April 17, 2008 8:59am
I'm with the few that thinks this is a little fishy. My first thought while watching it was that it reminded me of 'you suck at photoshop' only not worth watching.
The 10th Anniversary Final SubGenius Devival
April 17, 2008 8:34am
I've been going through a bit of SubGenius inner revival lately and realizing I haven't gone to an X-Day since 98.
I'm so happy BoingBoing is down with the Dobbs.
Camera glasses on sale -- goodbye, photography bans
April 8, 2008 7:55am
My first thought was of Spider Jerusalem's camera shades in Transmetropolitan.
Also, it would be cool if you could program them to snap an image every 10 or 30 seconds automatically. Wouldn't be to hard to hack the remote if it isn't an option.
Lost mechanical servant of 1961

Is it me or is that robot eying that housewife lustfully?
Japanese creative packaging design solutions to ugly barcodes

Vegan strippers
March 27, 2008 1:45pm
This would be an interesting concept if it was associated with some sort of study or claim on whether specific diets encouraged specific body types or something (beyond fat and skinny).
If it was a brothel then the claim that "vegetarians taste better" could really be put to the test! Now that would be interesting.
Pilot shoots hole in cockpit - trust is not transitive
March 27, 2008 8:30am
Indeed, while I can see the need to allow pilots to carry guns, I don't think it should be mandatory. And the training/screening to allow one to do so should be more strict rather than less so of a normal citizen just because it means one more gun on the plane.
But considering how many pilots have guns and how long they've been carrying them, it's not that mind blowing that a stupid accident like this will happen once in a while.
HOWTO Overclock an XO laptop from One Laptop Per Child
March 27, 2008 7:55am
I usually look at the laptop from the perspective of "Wow! I wish I had this when I was a kid!"
I'm thirty. I grew up around Commodore 64s and VIC-20s. I didn't have internet till high school. I'm sure many of you grew up with very different experiences depending on your age or culture.
Now we live in an era where educators are trying to grasp and deal with the fact that grade schoolers are meeting online at home to do homework assignments as a group.
It's a hard thing to know what is really important in computing for kids and where they come from at any point in time. I think the XO laptop is great for people who have little or no experience with computing. I also think it's fun for people who do have experience.
Alien Abduction festival photo gallery
March 22, 2008 6:20pm
Funny to see an article with a series of photos containing kids playing with foil and adults playing with sex toys; knowing that it is all connected.
Vatican comes up with a new list of Seven Sins
March 10, 2008 7:14pm
I was just thinking about that 'Jesus was a Jew' thing. Wouldn't he be a Christian simply by believing in himself?
Anyway, yeah. pretty depressing in a lot of ways. Earth needs a good strong plague to thin us humans out a bit.
Disneyland's plans to change It's a Small World ires fans
March 5, 2008 6:44pm
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride was a far greater loss to children in my opinion. It's a Small World hurt my head.
Seth Godin gives good advice to the music industry
March 3, 2008 3:27pm
So, instead of paying for music I pay someone to tell me what music to listen to?
Record companies don't share money extorted from file-sharing fans with artists
February 29, 2008 3:21pm
I imagine the record companies aren't making much profit (if any) from these lawsuits. The Function of the suits is more of a tool to put fear in the consumer.
The ridiculously high fines against moms and kids or whatever get press and cause controversy. A few people get mad and protest. A lot more think "geez, these people mean business! I'd better delete my mp3 collection!"

I wonder if children exposed to this type of censorship might be encouraged to exercise their minds in such a linguistic fashion to encourage writing poetry as they get older.
