Incredibly many commentators, including this guy, who knows better, imply that America makes / exports nothing and lives off of investment dollars (or tribute if you want my leftist slant) from other nations. This is not true - we are the world's #3 exporter after China and Germany. We *do* consume far beyond our means and that is certainly financed by foreign investment. In terms of earnings per capita we should be as wealthy as western Europe and living a slightly poorer lifestyle due to our poor social safety net and mediocre infrastructure choices. But the end of the world this ain't.

dizbuster: this might not apply to you, but I giggle at people that drop $1M+ in neighborhoods like SOMA and then are shocked, SHOCKED that the homeless people don't magically disappear when they move in.

The second-hander draws his sense of well-being from the approval of others. What is the approval of others? It is sheer delusion. It's the story you tell yourself about yourself, multiplied by ten thousand; but zero times any other number always equals zero.

This sums up the ethical immaturity of objectivism as well as its absolutism. It relies on the idea that we are not a social species and that "every man is an island." It denies the complexity of what creates a rich and fulfilling life even for an individual, much less society as a whole.

I wouldn't describe psilocybin as recreational beyond the quantity needed to get the physical body high. This stuff sounds therapeutic for the same reason any hallucinogen is.
