Disneyland bans pictures in its parking lots
April 22, 2008 8:18am
well if they actually had good cameras in the parking lot at Disney World's Downtown Disney when it first opened, my cousin's wife's son might have seen more justice. He was shot and killed in the parking lot by another Disney employee who was evidently a psychotic wacko. When she tried to sue Disney for not doing any real vetting of their employees, lawyers in Orlando told her the sheriff's department would not cooperate and no lawyer was going to ruin their career in Orlando by going after Disney. Perhaps if their had been film to make the local news, things might have turned out different and Disney would have been willing to make proper amends. But Disney sure did not want anyone to know that they sometimes hire psychotics as employees.
Gun owners are the happiest people in the US
April 21, 2008 4:55pm
Gun owners have a 30% greater chance of dying from a gun in the home. John Kerry owns guns. A much higher percentage of Canadians own guns than Americans. Many gun owners are or were in the military. Amish don't own guns. And the conclusion I should draw from this is?
As far as the gun nut who thinks NYC and Chicago have some of the worse gun violence -- wrong. Try Houston, Miami, Atlanta, DC, and Baltimore. And why does DC and Baltimore have some of the worse? One word -- Virginia. Nice try.
How many of the gun owners out here, and I could care less about most guns being owned, have actually used them to "defend their freedom?" Don't justify your gun fetish on that kind of bull crap. People that own guns have a greater chance of dying than people who don't from violence and no one has defended their freedoms with their guns.

And if any of you idiots think that we don't owe this and more to them has no clue about life and our history. With out getting into blame in the clash of cultures that occurred, one thing is for certain. We took their lands, we took their wealth and we took their way of life from them. We violated treaties time and time again, we slaughtered them many times, we killed the buffalo to kill them. Is there something good we did for these people ever?

Homeland Security bans IBM indefinitely from US Federal Contracts
March 31, 2008 8:27pm
Its for an EPA contract. Not sure what DHS has to do with this except to get people to read it? Assuming the worse possible situation, then it seems extreme since it would just involve people on this EPA contract. I can guarantee that IBM will fully cooperate and if there is any hanky panky, they will be fired quickly. Given the bombardment from the top down on ethics and especially with Federal contracts, this is quite surprising, but then nothing guarantees that someone can't be stupid. Since each group, deal, etc., do their own thing when getting work, the Federal wide ban makes no sense.

You know not what you are talking about Chava. The majority of the workforce is in the US. The Asian presence is not that large, though growing fast in China and India. About 1/3 of the company is over seas now. Most of the differences in profit is due to currency fluctuations.
Tokyo dog-rental service
March 31, 2008 8:07am
I love the shots at Japan about track record above. Did not know Michael Vick was Japanese.
In Beijing, there are similar shops but you don't rent the dog, you buy it. You choose your dog, then the kill it, clean it, dress it and take it home all ready as a roast or for the stew pot. Many new stores are now opening up there in anticipation of the Olympic athletes and visitors wanting to try something more exotic. And several are already advertising hormone free varieties, always a plus when dealing with Chinese meat.

Texas students shut down highway and march 7 miles to vote in gerrymandered district
February 23, 2008 4:10pm
In case you were not aware, Prairie View A&M is historically a black college that was moved into the Texas A&M system because of years of discriminatory underfunding. This placement of the poll is not the first thing that has been done against the students by the county and state. For years they have been threatened and harassed about voting in this location period. Threats of charging them with voter fraud, clearing of the voting roles, it goes on. Remember this is Texas where discriminating against blacks in all manner is common still. The idea that this is just some sudden complaint by the students is as false as can be. Basically when they finally have the opportunity to vote thanks to all the law suits that had to happen there, they still get screwed by the white leadership there. I guess its sad once again how so many out here are so quick to defend the oppressors without any real understanding of the situation.

Yoko Ono: No, I'm not suing Lennon Murphy over "Lennon."
February 14, 2008 10:21pm
An example of why blogs such as this replacing newspapers as the main source of news people get is so sad.
Its also amazing that everyone was ready to think ill of Yoko. This was John Lennon's wife. No matter what was said about her being responsible for breaking up the Beatles, which was completely false of course, do you think John loved a witch or bad person for so many years? That he would write songs such as "Oh Yoko" or "Love" for someone not deserving? All of you that trashed her also trash the memory of John Lennon. For shame.

This is what the Israelis do and its been 100% successful. Easy to bitch but better than checking old ladies, Ted Kennedy and myself for that matter. In fact as far as I am concerned, they never have to check Ted Kennedy or Joe Biden or Trent Lott, etc. Or Joe Montana or Joe Torre. Might seem unfair but that's the reality in that its a total waste of time to screen people that we all know are not terrorists.

Slate's Jack Shafer on Rolling Stone drug war article
December 5, 2007 8:38pm
The article in RS is quite brilliant. I never realized that the guy in the trenches at DEA finally get it. Certainly the top has not gotten it. The fact that they control what your doctor can prescribe to you is a crime itself. DEA needs to go away and be replaced with DTA, Drug Treatment Agency. But once a government bureaucracy is in place, killing it is near impossible. But then we did kill off the postal service as a cabinet department to something that had to pay their own way. Maybe if the DEA was forced to pay its own way.....

Amazon fights Fed's request for names of book buyers
November 27, 2007 8:58pm
We may have to tap your phone line now VitaminCM. Clearly you are not a good citizen.
What is really sad about this is the lack of imagination by the prosecutor. Doesn't he even watch Law and Order? Is it because they are dumb or think with the current administration they can swagger about as they see fit also? Besides asking Amazon to contact the buyers, they certainly could have posted a help advertisement on Google or even gotten Amazon to do the same. Did they really want 29K witnesses anyway? How would they even have waded through it all? What schools are responsible for handing out law degrees to this crowd?

Science and carbs - A big fat lie revisited
November 18, 2007 1:14pm
if all you ate was rice, you would loose weight and probably starve of multiple nutritional diseases. the idea that asians don't eat vegetables is silly, perhaps not as much in japan where there is limited farm land, but certainly not in the rest of asia. most asian kids (except japan) had not seen a chocolate bar until they had contact with american soldiers. i think the lack of processed sugar foods is one reason asians have less weight issues, but do they not exercise through biking or walking more also?

Hiroshima bomb pilot dies aged 92
November 1, 2007 10:06pm
Sorry bagpipe_bomb, "So why not capture, rape and murder their children in front of them. Why not slaughter all prisoners as brutally as possible as soon they are taken. Why not salt the earth, etc. etc." is what the Japanese did in China to the Chinese people. So any attempt to draw any significant sympathy to the Japanese would require a complete loss of perspective. While it is highly probable that there are other reasons to and not to have dropped the atomic, I will not bother to discuss unless the issue is raised by someone that knows the facts leading to and after the event. One thing is clear though -- dropping the bomb on Nagasaki was not necessary what so ever.

Interview with Ridley Scott, Blade Runner: The Final Cut
September 27, 2007 1:18pm
The voice over was terrible, forced on Scott by the studios figuring people could not follow the movie without it. Please. It adds nothing and I never want to hear it again. Studio machinations are just dumb. Look what they did to Orson Wells. Ditto on the happy ending. She does have a limited life span. Hell we all do. I thought the fact that there is difficult piano music on the piano was a sign that he was a possible replicant? Rachel could play it because she is one. But then we never heard him play it. If they start beating down on monks, that may cause a general uprising. Where is the US in this? Talk about a chance to actually help people that do really want their freedom. I have the feeling we don't have many free naval resources available to bring into the area. Its nice how this waste in Iraq has tied us down elsewhere.
Teacher resigns after giving 13-yr-old student copy of Eightball
September 24, 2007 3:03pm
Remember, we are now at the point that adult males are not even suppose to talk to under 18 females. No mentors, no treat them like adults, no nothing. The assumption in the USA, not so much in Europe that I can tell, is it must be predatory. Anyway, should I hide my Vertigo collection from my kids when they get older? If my kid gives another kid the comic to read that is from me, am I guilty of some perceived crime or is my kid? I was reading Louis La'mour westerns in 7th grade. My mother was a bit concerned, but never said no. But one thing for certain -- reading can never be bad. Even reading "Mein Kampf" is good as it illustrates to most people that Hitler was an idiot.

MIT student arrested for entering Boston airport with "fake bomb"
September 21, 2007 6:23pm
Well now terrorists know the perfect way of doing a diversion in Logan. Have someone wear something like that, perhaps a bit less obvious, while security herds over to the person and the crowds herd into the terminal away from the fake bomber, the real bombers go right into the crowd and boom. Of course why would anyone bother to do any of this at an airport? She was outside when they got her. What kind of reality is this? Would it not be much easier to cruise into Fenway, strapped, armed, etc, on a cool night when you have a jacket on and do much more destruction? And know I don't worry about terrorism. Even with no extra security after 9/11, the odds of being hit by a terrorist are much, much, much, lower than dying in a car accident. Most Americans are incapable of understanding that.

Those outside of the norm must be re-educated K. A. Scott. Our society can no longer accept deviant behavior. We must do like Singapore -- cane and re-educate.
MIT student arrested for entering Boston airport with "fake bomb"

My freedom is sacrificed. Bin Laden has won. I remember after 9/11 we said, they will not change whom we are. They did. We spend billions and billions now. What is the ROI? He who defends everything, defends nothing. The only answer was and is, to take out Bin Laden and the other leaders. That is our biggest failure in security. That is why this president is a complete and total failure.

TSA: war on coffee successful, boxcutters not so much
September 18, 2007 9:34pm
This is why you should try and use that brain before you respond here people. Who cares about box cutters now? With the barred cockpit door, if the people on the plane are somehow stupid enough to get slaughtered by someone with box cutters or knives or knitting needles, then the plane lands as scheduled with a bloody passenger section. However, if I can bring a liquid on board that can be combined with the liquids my five friends brought on board into an explosive, the cockpit door being barred does not help. That is why it is the way it is. So Consumerist should just quit posting this crap. I don't care about your box cutters and in reality, neither does the TSA, but they don't want to say out loud, passenger gets hurt ok, plane goes down, bad.
Tor anonymity server admin arrested
September 16, 2007 10:11pm
This is the second time this has happened in Germany. I believe the first time was because of child pornography being posted where the final IP was from a Tor server. That server's owner was eventually exonerated without having to go to court.

Wron DCULBERSON, there is prescription methamphetamine. Its called Desoxyn and its been out for over 25 years. I believe Abbott was the original manufacturer. It is used for severe obesity and ADDH. There is nothing worse than a bunch of opinions from people that have no clue as to what they are talking about. None of you understand the proper use of it and none of you have either used or abused it. That is obvious. Do a little research on the Internet from legitimate sources and then get back to us.
Army's unmanned aerial drone kills for the first time
September 14, 2007 12:37am
and the CIA has been using the, like in Pakistan. First Iraq was a mistake, but in a combat zone, if someone is doing something like that, shoot first, ask questions later. Should they waited until the device exploded so they would no longer be suspected of it? we might not ought to be in Iraq, but while we are there, this is what we need to be doing.

Not working now, but wikipedia tells me that "Kutas is a village in Somogy county, Hungary." One man's kutas is another man's home.
