Over 700,000 people are on terrorist watchlist, according to US gubmint
March 13, 2008 3:41pm
there are probably enough employees of the intelligence agencies to make that 1 in 300 seem realistic.
all i can do is shake my head, these mother fuckers have decided that they can redefine the label "terrorist" in any shoot-from-the-hip way that suits them at the moment.
at the moment, much of the terrorism in the united states is originating on pennsylvania avenue.
"forever a good choice", are you joking?
Pro golfer hits balls at hawk until he kills it, then denies he tried to kill it
March 7, 2008 2:40pm
monster says "It's not like it was a bullet, it was a golf ball." dude, if you get hit with a golf ball, you will likely end up in er. just like a rock, only lighter.you fail in a very small and amusing way.
the golfer is, if he acted as described, a worse animal cruelty offender than michael vick, except for scale.
as for the supposedly gutless witnesses, sometimes a continued paycheck is difficult to weigh against speaking up. i once fronted off a maintenance boss who went on safari against a pigeon that accidentally flew into the shop. when he instructed the maintenance crew to make a spear, i told the maintenance supervisor that i intended to see him prosecuted if he didn't find a better way to get the bird out. he called an animal removal company, and i disengaged. he was flabbergasted that he might actually be guilty of animal cruelty. otoh, i was a union steward. fire extinguishers aren't meant to capture animals.
TSA endangers child's life by contaminating his feeding tube despite pleas
March 6, 2008 3:37pm
i know someone who worked for tsa until she failed a test, they said that capricious enforcement is the rule. they had to take a bottle of perfume from a little girl, a college girl was allowed to take her yogurt onboard, but on the same flight, a woman was not allowed to bring applesauce for her baby/toddler on the plane. they said they don't regret failing the test.

Steampunk collages of Stephen Rothwell
January 19, 2008 3:23pm
steampunk is pretty much a fantasy about a gear-driven analog computer internet. i can empathize with that idea. the title story collage doesn't seem like steampunk to me, though.

Topless woman in park used as bait in police arrest
January 3, 2008 12:27pm
well, thanks, skep for correcting me on my use of the word discussion. and yes it was a monologue, but once you realize that he showed his junk to a woman in plain view of uninterested passersby (whether they were actually there is irrelevant, try running a red light on a deserted street at 3 in the morning and try the "but nobody was around to be harmed" argument if you are ticketed)there is nothing more to discuss about this case wrt guilt or not. which was what i meant.

Topless woman in park used as bait in police arrest
January 2, 2008 3:01pm
ladies and gentlemen, the real issue was him flashing his dick in a PUBLIC place, end of discussion. the smart thing on several levels would have been for him to offer to adjourn to a non-public location.
how many guys can honestly say they wouldn't have at least considered showing theirs, seeing as she was already showing hers (not quite applicable, female breasts are strong sexual display features, men have no such universally recognized secondary display features).
still, there are limits, nobody who doesn't want to see sex or obvious sexual overtures whether gay or straight in a public place, should have to. and that's why he was wrong and will no doubt be found guilty. she may or may not have been allied with the cops, but it doesn't matter.
Arnold's Fables: What Koko Wants
December 21, 2007 8:58pm
first off koko is a she. she has some degree of confusion regarding her peopleness, and has asked other seemingly inappropriate favors. there was a male caretaker who she wanted to "ride on her back", which was apparently her way of describing gorilla love. there's something sad about having crushes cross species lines.
i believe that innocent curiousity is the cause of the tittie inspection, although i don't think that mandatory breast exposure should be a condition of the job.

i'm not real clear on why it's wrong to get something for nothing, if it's offered. ulterior motives may exist, but if the terms are unacceptable just bow out.
i figure that i'd get to know these guys on a first name basis.
