Real police upset over TSA's pretend-police costumes

Isn't it possible that TSA employees could be arrested for impersonating a police officer unless they make it clear that their badge, etc., is just pretend? I mean, if you rent a cop uniform for Halloween, the badge HAS to look fake or you could wind up in the pokey for impersonation (or so I am led to believe).
I wonder if you couldn't initiate a case of impersonating a police officer by simply talking with a TSA screener who's in uniform and making it clear that you believe they're a cop. The moment they start to play along, they're impersonating an officer, no?
D.C. to require ID to enter certain neighborhoods?

The most disturbing thing, to me, is the way this sort of measure can start to feel normal once it's been employed for a while. The first few times you drive through the barricade, it's eerie and scary. The twentieth time, it's annoying. The time they pull you out of the car and arrest you for not having your papers or a "legitimate purpose" in the area, it's too late.
Surely, there are better ways of curbing the violence that is wracking DC (a story which has been seriously under-reported in the national press, if it's as bad as it sounds). I don't know if the answer is more cops or gun control or what, but I don't think criminalizing entire neighborhoods is likely to work out for the better.
Taking pictures on LA's Red Line violates the "9/11 Law"

See, the thing about CCTV is that it is, at most, being watched in a round-robin sort of way. A couple seconds on camera X then a couple on camera Y and so on. I suspect that the primary value of CCTV footage with regard to terrorist attack is post-event... you get a shot of the terrorist and his backpack going from the parking garage into the train station and then one as he/she steps onto the train, etc.
CCTV isn't going to save anyone from a bomb going off in front of a given camera (barring massively good luck or completely stupid terrorists), but it might help identify the bomber after the fact. Also, it will certainly give them something to spin endlessly on the news while they work to amp up the public's fear level along with their ratings.
Canada's Crown Copyright: high-cost censorship

Annual cost of $200,000? Um... I think we spent more money in Iraq while I was reading that post. In fact, I'm sure of it. If the worst that the Canadian government has to offer is a $200,000 waste of time, I'd say they're light years ahead of the US in terms of controlling waste. Ooops, I think we just dropped another $200,000 there... probably bought a couple toilets for the Air Force.
