Karl Schroeder: Climate change will outrun the Singularity
June 11, 2008 4:18pm
People always look at the negative. Global warming will reduce the population throw the ecosystem off balance and force humans and other species to adapt more. I think humanity has reached a point where we have advanced far enough to survive by force. The singularity is eventual at which point changes can be further made to either save the planetary ecosystem or simply eradicate it. Either way where driving the car the singularity is the GPS system and nature is tied up in the trunk.

I have no idea what the hell people are talking about... use a bush, it just looks like your looking for a ball. I don't think there is a golfer alive that hasn't taken a leak in a bush or behind a tree. I hate when people make things more complicated then it already is.
Fake bus stop keeps Alzheimer's patients from escaping

What... were not tazing people any more?!!!
I am glad that such an idea gives people the dignity that they deserve. Having an ailment is no reason to deny people especially the elderly there dignity or self respect. I actually love the comment about the fake wedding, it allows people to participate and interact rather then the humdrum of daily life.
It is in times like this that I am glad we can actually substitute reality (although in a limited capacity).

Same as Mazda deliberately destroying the cars... Insurance companies want to make sure that the merchandise isn't resold for profit. Understandable yet sad.

As a photographer you have to be able to visualize what the shot is going to be. Clicking is 1% of photography the other 99% is setting up. I have done it many times where I set up the cameras settings and angles and simply run with the camera to the location, click and leave (because of a law constraint or a time constraint such as being hit by an approaching car).
I can see him setting up his camera exactly as he wants at one stop having a girl run in at the next stop, hold a pose "click" and have her run out again. Notice the train is at stops...
Frankincense lowers anxiety in mice
May 21, 2008 2:43am
I grew up in an Armenian Orthidox home, and Frankincense is used for religious services, especially at funerals (if you ever see smoke coming from a funeral at Forest Lawn in Burbank), we even burn some in the house for easter, and I realized a long time ago that it was always a relaxing feeling and that it more then likely calmed people. A plume of Frankincense hitting you at a funeral honestly puts you at ease for a little while.

My old man built the same thing for my brothers place, it was awesome but I remember my sister in laws first reaction when she saw it. "how is he going to get upstairs drunk?..." A rail was later put in.

Yaa... Last time my ancestors were in a genocide I think it was because of there beliefes in JC not that the world was round. You hear it more and more about how people pray for there children to be cured I mean who the hell needs magic like penicillin? I'm sure glad that JC and prayer cured my kidney disease and not a transplant like normal people cause of course he looks out for the little guys all the time, even the ones who who died in the fire pits of Deir Ezzor.

Its the front of Oviet Library. Its used a lot in film. I was there when they shot the Kurt Russel superhero movie (I don't want to remember what it was called, but I think it was a Disney flick). The last time I saw it was for the campus scene in the new Knight Rider Show...
Arthur C. Clarke dead at 90
March 18, 2008 3:19pm
Wow... this bummed me out. He has been such an influential figure in my (24 years) of life, its sad to see some one thats spanned generations go. He taught me two things in life. "Religion is a brain virus" and "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
I almost thought he would live forever.

I take medication for a transplant and traveled from LAX to Armenia and then back stopping in Ibiza. This was a month long trip and I had to take all my medication with me. I traveled through about five screenings and had a 12"x12"x3" brick of all kinds of medication in my carry on. Not one single airport ever asked me to open any thing or take anything out.
Taking a Full-Sized Computer into Starbucks
February 26, 2008 2:32pm
I remember reading an article on boingboing about a homeless guy that would bring in a CRT and I cant remember if it was with a full sized PC or if it was a laptop with a busted screen. So this has been done before.

People don't realize, but the statue has metal spikes running across both its arms on the top and it also has a crown of spikes on the head, I'm assuming this is so that birds don't sit or nest on the statue and crap all over the touristas.

My old man and brother are contractors. So they have one that is the same but without the nail setter. To be honest I never see it in there hands. The stalk is big and the head is no different. trying to hammer a nail with it you can hardly see where you are hitting. Your more likely to miss or hit a glancing blow (when your framing all the wasted blows add up to pain in your arm). Plus a wooden stalk... ya it looks cool but it breaks....

This guy probably did more damage then good. He took a dump on every case by becoming involved in them and now the public is going to have to pay for it by low lives getting off.
