As for the coder himself: Hack away, but the minute he started profiting off of someone elses copyright/whatever, he had to expect well organized resistance under the law.
You don't like the law? Vote.
Ceronomus, I think that's not the same sort of analogy. The swap to Vista is more like changing the fuel to ethanol from gas - it wasn't Creatives decision to revamp the whole OS. So, unless you install a certain widget, the car will run very poorly if at all, and although the widget can be easily made and will restore performance, doing so opens GM up to all sorts of hassles when the n00bs install it themselves.
Creative Stops Hacker from Improving Their Product
March 31, 2008 10:58am
#2 - Why would they? How is Creative, a hardware company, going to sell more hardware by working with him?
May I draw a comparison? Would you take your 1965 GM into a modern GM dealership for repair? Or would you take it to "Jimbo's old-time car shop"?
I do not see it being in GM's financial interest to keep the tools on hand to service every car they ever made, nor do I see any reason that GM should be expected to offer free advertising that will help Jimbo make money. Further, should Jimbo start selling his service as being of "Mister Goodwrench" quality, I rather expect there would be some repercussions.

On a slight tangent, I use a site for public radio schedules, podcasts, and streams called PublicRadioFan.com. Global listings too, and with lots of different ways to organize the listings.
It's inspired me to join more than one station, based on how their schedule fits my taste better than my local NPR affiliate (who are doing fine without me), and I kick the guy 10 bucks a year just for sharing such a thoughtfully executed project.

SimCity adds global warming to the mix
October 11, 2007 7:26am
I have played SimCity since the beginning. The SimCity modd community has done amazing things to make a decent game (SC4) good.
It's quite bad enough that the new SC has done away with most of the unnecessary (yet quite fun) complexity of the past games. But British Petroleum? Seriously? Sorry EA. You'll not get a dime from this fan.
Also, EA, could you open source the older SC4 if you are otherwise going to let it die? Your past fans have work to do.

Her mistake was stepping back into the store. Something similar happened to me once, and I told them to call the police immediately and have me arrested.
They didn't, because I hadn't stolen anything. I had carried a CD in my back pocket for 20 minutes before putting it back where I got it.
Remember, unless they are arresting you - if they lay an hand on you it is assault, and you are allowed to defend yourself.

"but all the prioritized packets get through the tube at 2x pps (or however much of the increased bandwidth we can get), doesn't that prioritize without de-prioritizing?"
No. An open road is an open road. Would you like a BMW only lane on your local toll-road? How about a BMW only lane that expanded to take up the slower lanes when there were a lot of BMW's on the road, causing you to drive on the shoulder?
