Fluxx -- Nomic card game
January 29, 2008 8:37am
A few Fluxx decks also come with blank cards allowing you to make up your own Keeper, Rule, Action, or Goal. As my friends and I always try to make random goals of the keepers we had, this allowed us to make a true Goal for one of our favorite combinations: Death Doughnuts.
I also found a couple of expansion packs at one point - Jewish and Christian themed cards.

Winning lotto ticket confiscated from drug peddler
January 23, 2008 1:27pm
A quick search didn't turn this up on Boing Boing, but I didn't look very hard - back in November, a Massachusetts man denied the win of a lifetime because his parole conditions forbid gambling, including lotto tickets and Keno.

Zeno: Electric Zit Zapping
January 8, 2008 7:39am
I can't speak to the efficacy of the Zeno, but their molecular biology is B.S. Heat shock proteins basic purpose is not to trigger cell death - rather, their role is to promote survival at high temperatures or under other duress by acting as a chaperone to other proteins (to keep them folded correctly). Inducing the cells to produce heat shock proteins might slow growth/reproduction, but I don't think that's what is killing the bacteria.
Note: I'm just a BS level mol bio person myself so the heat shock proteins could be more complicated than I realize...

Educational TV parody: Look Around You

A friend introduced me to these this spring. The episode on water is a favorite of mine, mainly for the experimenter repeatedly reaching in to the boiling water and subsequent hand makeup.
No friends yet.
