Great financial advice for writers

Your income is half of what you think it is.

Actually, when you are self-employed, your income is exactly what you think it is. If you're employed, your income is more than your paycheck. This is not a trivial issue. It is vitally important for people to think of taxation as an expense, or else they have given the government ownership of their property and have underrepresented the value of their work. Slap some sense into the next person who gives you their income in "after-tax dollars."

the interpretation of rights IS subject to a vote.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

That's not ambiguous, unless your reading comprehension level is very, very low.

Movable Type now under a free license

December 13, 2007 11:35am

As a (core) WordPress developer and supporter of Free software, this makes me very happy! It's great that Movable Type is now part of the Free/Open Source community. Six Apart got a lot of flak (and I'd argue, deservedly so) in 2004 for the MT 3.0 licensing/pricing episode. But I really think they've grown as a company and have drastically improved their community relations, due in no small part to the efforts of Anil Dash. MTOS solidifies that comeback.

Perpetually punching peasant machine

As I recall, the car was powered by a dog on a treadmill inside the engine compartment. My favorite part about the scene is how happy the people look -- right up until the moment they get clocked. They can see the car punching everyone up the road, but they seem optimistic that they'll be spared.

Oh, and the punching action is manually triggered by the Rascals.

Techniques such as twirling or blurring or pixelating are not foolproof methods of visual obfuscation. If you want to hide information, you should obscure it completely.

Is executing people for their political beliefs considered funny to you, Mark?
