Griefers deface epilepsy message-board with seizure-inducing animations

I hate to break this to all your fear mongerers, but 4chan is not necessarily Anonymous or vice versa. I believe they're actually referring to a separate sort of anonymous in both cases. Although both have "anonymous" folk, you have to remember that the word anonymous implies anonymity- which is exactly what you need if you go against the CoS.

Although these two groups may share members, I am fairly certain Anonymous is more of an abstract idea than an organized group, imploring people to don masks and rise against the evil CoS.

Because /b/ is full of anonymous posters, the news media put 2 and two together and found a perfectly sinister and difficult to understand group of internet anime kids to pin the actions of Anonymous on.

In reality, a lot of people hate Scientology. Well, more specifically- almost everyone who is not scientologist themselves see what's wrong with it- the proper Anonymous is more of a diffused movement to give people an excuse to organize against them. So why doesn't anyone answer for Anonymous proper? It's both a small group and everyone, simple as that.

Stephen Fry on the Asus Eee

February 22, 2008 7:04am

I've had an eeepc for a couple months now. It really is a college student's dream. For those of you who think the keyboard and monitor would be difficult to get used to - it is... but it's amazing how fast you adapt.

Its default linux distro is fairly impressive as far as linux goes, but in all honesty, I wiped it within a couple months and installed Windows Fundamentals. Here Fry is extolling all the amazing virtues of open source- but ironically this device runs beautifully under windows. It boots faster, its media performance is vastly improved (DirectX > SDL) - and its sleep/wake and power management is generally improved as well. I wouldn't go installing vista on this machine, but you may find that Windows FLP (or XP) really frees it from the feature-lock of its default distro.

Of course, you can't obtain Windows FLP legally unless you're part of an enterprise. So now I am running Google Talk (pidgin is way slow), StarOffice, and Opera as my default browser (way faster than the default firefox) for huge gains. This system is not great because it's open source- it's just good hardware.

Charitable giving guide, the 2007 edition

December 10, 2007 9:01am

These are great charities, for the most part. I would like to argue against giving to Defective by Design, though- they're not really doing anything positive and really just rallying and protesting against Microsoft-- and specifically Microsoft.

They seem to ignore any other company that uses DRM schemes (like Apple). I don't see this as a charity so much as a hate group.

Please, give your money to someone who does something other than whine about obnoxious technology, like the Red Cross. Let the market deal with DRM.

Russian fighter jet can stop in mid-flight

December 5, 2007 2:22pm

Are we really anticipating a war with China? If so, the world economic collapse seems to be more relevant than issues of air superiority. China is buying these fighters because they want to waste billions on cold war era defense just like us!

I, for one, think it's adorable. :)

MIT student arrested for entering Boston airport with "fake bomb"

September 21, 2007 9:45am

I just saw the device on CNN - it's really obviously an electronics project. She apparently wanted to "stand out for Career day". She seems really pro-active and the shirt seems to be the kind of geek showmanship that would usually get posted on BB.

I guess this follows with the conventional knowledge that ALL CIRKIT BOARDS EXPLOAD OKAY? Boston has basically been batting zero with this whole "anti-terrorism" thing.

Remember, people: don't express yourselves through technology. Drop those home-made gadgets and toss an ipod around your neck.
