Ludicrously expensive bottled water for rich morons
April 11, 2008 10:55am
It is really any more "stupid" than people who drink bottled water to begin with or the morons who pay ridiculous prices for organic food?
Steve Steinberg on "Crowd Dynamics"

What is funny is that the Black-Scholes equation is nothing more than a thermodynamic equation of how heat dissapates. Undergraduate engineering students have been learning the exact same equation for close to 100 years and yet some U of C finance PhD student uses it in the 1960's and wins the Nobel Prize. CAPM is the same, just a statistical model used by engineers for years that someone slaped on finance.

I think we can safe exclude Biology from the realm of science. It is no more scientific than marketing or economics.

Rudimentary math skills among fish
March 22, 2008 9:15am
I think simply attributing this to "ability to perform math" is quite suspect. Psychology is guilty of misattributing true cause at times because it is really a very soft science unlike a science like physics or its even more difficult counterpart, engineering. Could it be that 4 fish simply take up "more" of the field of vision than 3 fish? Then the fish simply goes toward the larger "similar" fish space.
More research needed please.
Salon shows how to read WSJ for free
March 21, 2008 12:49pm
People who read Salon are intellectual backwater, nothing more that clildren of the wealthy and powerful. I am glad they will read the WSJ, it will teach them how to think.
Creationist documentary premiere bars science blogger, accidentally lets in Richard Dawkins
March 21, 2008 12:45pm
Both of these groups are intellectual lightweights. Both are grossly ignorant of scientific theory and both school of thoughts lack intellectual rigor as compared to physics. So what if somebody beleves in creationism, what does it matter? If you don't believe in Physics, buildings fall down, millions die. Don't believe in evolution, nothing changes. Really, why do people care? Evolution and Creationism doesn't matter. Physics and Chemistry does.
I hate this whole debate, much ado about nothing. And people, study physics, thermodynmanics, and chemistry, and then you will truely understand science, not this half assed bullshit.

Granted, bad, but you got to love how old people have no fear to say exactly what is on their mind. But he is mistaken about Brazilians ruining Brazil.... the problem is all the italians in Italy. Bastards.

I agree with this Bailey chic on this one. That is pretty close. Honestly who, above the age of 10, doesn't think this looks like junk? Red Dog beer thing, yea, thats a stretch. This is pretty bad.
Cognitive science vs. crappy PowerPoint slides

By the time someone reads this book, they could have supported his or her presentation with better content.
At times, psychology seems like it is the science for stupid people, and in turn, lowering the IQ of us all.

"fading books" Ummmm, no. When we count some religions in the billions, they're not exactly having a tough go, regardless of what you wish to happen.
"cocky humans" Ummmm, no. Even if it was true, I had no idea the irreligious were so humble. I should buy Chris Hitchens a drink for his "out-of-the-spotlight" mannerisms.

News Flash, you have been eating genetically modified food for, oh, the last 30 years or so. And you comment about how things have been going swimmingly naturally, tell that to the, oh I don't know, the Irish in the 1700s or the Ethopians of the 1980s how well natural food worked for them when they were staving to death.
Natural does not equal healthly.
Fidel Castro, Commander in Chief of Cuba, resigns
February 19, 2008 8:43am
This is why I think Christopher Hitchens is full of crap. When Castro temporarily left office a few months back, Hitchens was shouting on high on slate.com about how this is a military coup. Well lookie here, it is not.
He is intellectual backwash.

Granted, transparentecy is at times good, but to classify this is "brave", plz. These journalists are as self serving as the people they are reporting about. What is sad is how many are suckered into this line of reasoning. Don't confuse bravery with media whoring.
Skateboard hating cop caught on video for 2nd temper tantrum
February 15, 2008 9:07am
I love how people want to arrest this guy for confronting someone breaking the law and a two paragraph on a website w/o video. So much for the "rule of law". Go mob mentality!!!!
U.S. will try to shoot down spy satellite gone bad
February 15, 2008 9:05am
What's funny is that people are con'ed by half assed science all the time, see organic/cloned food. But now everyone is a skeptic concerning this satellite's fuel causing any dangers?
And Dculberson, how is Tom avoid the facts? If anything, he is pointing them out to all of us. His disregard for the "conspiracy" theory and you're ignorance doesn't mean you're right and he is wrong. Sorry he disagrees with the mob mentality, deal with it.

Surveillance vote in house imminent, EFF's call for action
February 14, 2008 10:27am
What "millions" have been spied on? Any proof of that number? And no, this is not a violation of human rights. Ireland circa 1700s was a violation of human rights. Most realists would claim that this isn't on the radar.
Keep up the good work gov't.
Cop roughs up teenage skateboarder on video

Authoritarian? Bully a 14 year old kid skateboarding illegally and now we live in a police state. Talk to people in Chile about what is it like to live in an authoritative regime, and they would laugh in your face. Reality please.
So a cop went over the edge a bit, not a big deal. Something tells me that the unfortunate hurt feelings of a 14 year old is worth the price to pay for the life this cop may save someday.
authoritarian....geez.
Cop roughs up teenage skateboarder on video
February 13, 2008 10:53am
Geez, maybe the cop had a bad day. So a 14 year old got rough up a bit, so now we hang a guy who will have to deal with situtations where he will get shot at to protect us. That 14 year old was brat, he was going to get an ass kicking from someone, better sooner than later.
That cop should get a 2 week suspension with no pay, and that is good enough. If you think it should be more, like fired, then you are the heartless pig.
Documentary about women who collect fake babies
February 13, 2008 8:05am
Is this any more odd than other parts of our society, like the irrational, unscientific fear of cloned food (or un-organic food) or the evolution boogie man? All of you who are called this "scary" I am sure have a other odd traits yourself.
