Why hardware ebook readers are a dead end (for now, anyway)
March 5, 2008 8:42am
I'm not interested in an ebook reader until they have ones with two "pages", and folds closed like an actual book.
Reading a book on only one "page" just doesn't seem right for me. Plus, it sucks for comics, which quite often spread over the two pages.
World's most complete recorded music collection on eBay

It's about 1,000,000 times larger than the collection at your local radio station.
Some—But Not All—of the Horrible Motherboard Box Art We Found
February 18, 2008 4:26pm
All this goes through my mind each time I walk into the local PC component warehouse...
I wish it were possible to ban 3D Studio or Maya in Taiwan.
Music video roundup from the 1960s

I really, really like those movies of Françoise Hardy...
France had a certain, irreplaceable aesthetic back then.
O Canada! The Canadian DMCA version of the national anthem
December 9, 2007 12:58pm
Great. I'd managed to completely flush the unfunny horror that is UserFriendly out of my brain. Now I'm aware of it again. Thanks.
President Bush's travel entourage
November 30, 2007 2:21pm
That's a pretty big entourage... but how many of those people are COOL?
He could just be hangin' with a gaggle of dorks.
Gutsy ad-campaign for Buckley's vile, foul, miraculous cold-remedy
November 13, 2007 3:03pm
Buckley's is, indeed, vile. I dreaded my mother giving it to me as a child.
But it's a part of our culture. And it works.
Last winter they had a stand setup at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto doing video auditions for their national television ad campaign. The one that scares my cat under the bed.
Photo-bans at pop art shows -- irony impairment, or Dadaism?
November 13, 2007 3:00pm
Last week I got lectured for taking a cellphone photo out of the the window of a museum...
Apparently, the space is copyrighted. At least that's what the guard implied.
Netherlands bans magic mushrooms
October 14, 2007 4:27pm
According to my dad, who is dutch, the only people who really used shrooms in Amsterdam were the foreigners.
So, this rule doesn't really affect the Dutch, and there's not much opposition to it.
New GOP logo is funny

To me the elephant has a crazed look, like a circus elephant that's finally snapped and is ready to rampage.
You all know what happens next in that situation.
Accounts of trying to gets bats out of house
October 3, 2007 2:13pm
I had to deal with a bat in our townhouse a few years ago. Here's documentation of removal attempt 2/3:
http://www.lunarworks.ca/pics/bat-jar.jpg
It's a LONG story, so I'll cut the many details:
This was its second appearance. (We'd ejected it the day before.) This time I had opened the door to my room, and it flew down the hallway at me, causing me to fall backwards back into my room, shutting the door. There was a long standoff until I left my room again, subdued it with a flying pillow, and it crawled under my door at which point I caught it with a blanket.
It came back the next day. We had a professional come. He took it out of town so it couldn't find its way back.
Video compilation of television logo signoffs

Man, one of the more pleasant memories of the '80s, all that proto computer animation and synth for little things like that. The CBS Special Presentation one is a classic beyond classics.
Here's one that should be familliar to those from Toronto:

Bell doesn't have control over CTVglobemedia anymore. They sold off huge chunks of it a few years back, and retain only 15%.
Woodbridge owns the largest share now, 40%.
