I don't think minimalism and anachronistic design have to be mutually exclusive. In fact I didn't find much about this particular design in excess but the lamp, cameos and clock, none of which are part of the computer. I would probably get tired of staring at the wooden thing on the base of the monitor too, though ot looks a lot better than the cheesy geometric plastic base of my monitor.
I do hope that anachronistic design expands beyond Victorian and "L'Empire" style, maybe adopting instead the aesthetic of 1950s military radio equipment. That would be sweet.
