First/Worst: Online Nickname?
December 9, 2007 1:59pm
Wow.. this brings tons of memories rushing back.. using my 300baud modem with my Vic-20, then I got my Commodore64 and I got a free Hayes 2400 baud modem (at the time having a 2400 baud modem was considered leet and super fast!) anyway I think I was 13 when I first started on BBSs and I went by 'Special K', where I got the name from I can't recall, that was 20+ years ago... I've gone by 'dracos' for the last seven years, and I go by 'dampeal' as well, since the name dracos seems to have become very popular and taken by people now

Heat-Sensitive ON/OFF Coffee Mug
November 30, 2007 5:56pm
While interesting, I've given up on coffee mugs, they just don't hold enough liquid, I just stick to the large insulated metal travel types that hold 16oz plus.. less trips to fill it up!

I'm probably in the minority here, but I've never seen this... and I believe I'll be happy if I live the rest of the my days NOT seeing it either.

Chef's Choice M130: Electric Knife Sharpener That May Not Suck
November 28, 2007 11:41am
It's kinda-sorta true though really.. I know when I pulled it out of my knife kit and used it at work people always came over to me and asked me about it and asked to borrow it and ended up buying one themselves usually..
Chef's Choice M130: Electric Knife Sharpener That May Not Suck
November 28, 2007 5:44am
One thing I really like about the Accusharp is depending on the pressure you apply that is how much metal gets taken off the blade, meaning that it can actually be used to fix small chips in blades, it essentially can put a brand new blade on a knife if need be. I've used the Accusharp to put a new edge on a chisel edged knife, in other words I created a V type edge when there wasn't one originally. I think you'll be very happy with the Accusharp really.. I do own diamond steels, regular steels and whetstones, but the stones have been put away in favor of the accusharp. A couple strokes of it and you've got a razor sharp knife..
Chef's Choice M130: Electric Knife Sharpener That May Not Suck
November 27, 2007 7:45pm
Hey I have to jump in here and share a story, and let you know about the best knife sharpener you will ever own... Technically, I'm an Executive Chef, I don't do it anymore though, but in my 14 years in the business I worked with and for some of the top chefs and I ran restaurants as well. Obviously I have good knives, Forschner and Mundial brand.. no I don't like Henkels.. I don't like how they feel to me.. anyway, one day one of my suppliers comes in to get my order for dry proucts, paper goods, utensils etc, he had his new catalog with him and I browsed through it, they had various stones and electric knife sharpeners on sale.. Mind you this guy gets comissions as well, he had a few whetstones and a couple electric sharperners on sale, ranging from $50 - $150, so I tell him I'm looking for one and wanted to know which one was most likely the best since he talks to other people he might have a better view and opinions.. He told me 'none of them' and recommended me one for $10, yes that's ten dollars.. It's called the 'Accusharp' and it's a hand sharpener, google the name and the site pops up instantly, but that was about ten years ago now and I have only bought one more since then to replace the original.. There are knock-offs that look like it but they aren't the same.. I kid you not here, the Accusharp is the only sharpener you'll ever need, you do not need something that costs $150.. trust me on this

Roomba, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?
November 7, 2007 2:51pm
I've never owned a Roomba, but I got the Cleanmate QQ-1 for review a couple years ago and it's still going strong, I just got the Cleanmate QQ-2 for review a couple months ago and it's just as good as the first version, essentailly the same but quieter and it finds it charger, charges then continues working.. both are very cool overall, I've got two cats and three kids so the place gets messy fast. I've noticed that even if I run my upright vacuum, then run the Cleanmate it still picks up a lot of stuff, especially the pet hair and other small things that the vacuum somehow misses... the Cleanmate QQ-2 is a workhorse in itself, I just wish the dust bin was a bit bigger....
Accounts of trying to gets bats out of house
October 3, 2007 1:57pm
I'm not sure what the laws are where this happened, including all the comments, but I believe in some places that it is actually against the law to disturb bats like this. In some areas they are a protected species and if you have a nest in your home you need to have a professional deal with it and relocate them somewhere as not to harm them. Just something to think about...
Siemens Long Slot "Executive" Toaster
September 27, 2007 3:07pm
That's one thing that has always bugged me about toasters, and I find it amazing that we have all this wonderfull technology but yet still cannot make a toaster where the bread doesn't get stuck... I've owned numerous toasters, cheap to rather expensive and they all have gotten bread stuck in them many times...
