Einstein: Religion is "childish," "primitive"
May 14, 2008 8:21pm
You know Noen, you keep trying to equivocate atheists and religious fundamentalists, and you keep failing. Where's the atheist dogma? Where are the superstitions that atheists share? What dishonest lies do atheists keep trying to push in schools to further their 'religion'? What rituals do atheists hold because of their atheism?
Atheism is a lack of belief in gods, nothing more.

Poster Evidence is 100% wrong. If a change in the population is due to a changing gene pool, that's evolution. And unless he wants to present a definition of "information" and then calculate the amount of information present in the ten ancestors and then compare it to the present population's genes, his "no new information" line of argument is at best an unsupported assertion and at worst a credulous repetition of a long-debunked creationist claim.
As for macro-evolution, we have several examples of directly-observed speciation. More to the point, we have a great deal of evidence for prior speciation from sources such as the fossil record or our own chromosomes. The notion that macro-evolution is taken on faith not only isn't true, but it's blatant projection.

Gary Wolf profiles Ray Kurzweil in Wired

Darn it Tacitus, you beat me to it! I have no idea how one can conclude that Kurzweil has no life or is obsessed with death from the fact that he's taking measures to prolong his life. You could certainly argue that the measures are ineffectual or that he's going about it the wrong way, but the argument many posters here are making is a complete non sequitur.
If anything, it seems to me that trying to stave off death is something we all do. And it generally seems a worthwhile goal even if you don't think that immortality is within your natural lifetime.

Prodigous: So you accept that the term is perfectly accurate, but object because of the negative associations? You should understand that the reason 'denialist' has negative connotations is because of the actions and tactics of the denialists themselves! You cannot object to this term any more than creationists can complain that because 'creationist' has become a pejorative term, we're obligated to call them 'evolution skeptics'.
